Why Ben Solo Didn’t Appear to Rey on Tatooine Explained

In this video, I explain why Ben Solo’s force ghost did not appear to Rey on Tatooine at the end of The Rise of Skywalker by evaluating the events of the movie, the statements made by the writers, and our current knowledge of force ghosts and force dyads according to Star Wars Canon.

Rey and Ben's Dyad needs more exploration. There's so much they could've (and should've) done. Instead of living on her own (again) on a desert planet, this time Rey could've had Ben and the family she wanted. I'm convinced that Ben will be back in some sort of capacity. The options to bring him back are endless. The Force works in mysterious ways. If the Dyad truly is "power like life itself" then Ben will be back. I'm sincerely intending that they continue Rey and Ben's journey.

Maybe 5-10 years from now we get a Boba Fett type of reveal that Ben is alive...like a hooded figure appears in a Star Wars series/movie at some point in the future, the camera pans around this mysterious character with the force theme playing until it reveals an older Ben Solo, which would literally be the biggest cliffhanger ending to any piece of Star Wars media ever, and then that could launch his own series/movie...I don’t see why they wouldn’t give Ben Solo a series on Disney+ right now unless they know something we don’t, I think the chances Filoni has got a big plan for that character and they’re waiting for the right moment is pretty high...probably not going to happen anytime soon though.

Or, this whole thing could be wrong and he’s just dead after TROS and they haven’t given him a prequel series because Adam doesn’t want to come back right now and so they’re just waiting a couple years to ask him again...I just hope we get a series on him at some point, wether it’s pre sequels or post sequels.

While I like this theory of Ben being apart of Rey, the novel kind of debunks that: "It felt like half of her was missing, and she supposed it was." Maybe since Ben and Rey are one in the force, Ben can't be a force ghost until his other half joins him.

I've read a lot of fan theories about how Ben could still being alive, but this is my favorite: The Ben we see kissing Rey and then dying is actually Leia force-projecting herself as Ben, in order to save Rey while allowing the real Ben to escape and go on the obligatory Redemption Quest. That's why he never spoke in that scene and why his body vanished when he "died." He was never really there. Everyone would believe Rey if she said she saw him die, even with no body as proof. So no one would be looking for Ben to answer for the millions he killed.

I love this one because it would allow Leia to go out in style by topping her infamous brother kiss with a somehow even more awkward future-daughter-in-law kiss.

Oh director should see this video to your idea transformed to the next movie would be mind-blowing to see star wars rise again in another movie ...and of course explain about Ben solo and make it better for us to understand and finally fulfill our chip ...I mean ....Ben and Rey my dream to see them I was shocked when they kissed, it was a dream came true...but then he was gone what turned my life into a nightmare ....my mind is and will be forever obsessed with this until I have what I want for them or close at least

Considering that Kathleen Kennedy was going all genocide on the Skywalker/Solo clan, she couldn't have Ben Solo around more than he needed to be.

There WERE additional Ben Solo scenes planned but Kennedy put a stop to them, because they 'catered too much to the earlier movies'. (This is a normal pattern with her since she took over Lucasfilm. Every time she's gotten involved in a Star Wars project, she's deliberately set out to reduce, eliminate and/or devalue the legacy aspects of the franchise (the Star Wars sequels and Kenobi Season 1 are notable examples). Kennedy has even openly declared that she considers the old school fans 'a burden' for 'creators')

Even Abrams wasn't happy about this. Neither were the actors. Apparently a lot of good stuff got cut out.

Also, I'm pretty sure they decided to make Rey a Palpatine instead of a Kenobi for the same reason (though Favreau and co. have apparently found a loophole where she's now both), as well as omitting the appearance of the Jedi Force Ghosts in the final confrontation with the Emperor. (at the very least, I would have expected Luke to be there). Not to mention wiping out Luke's new Jedi Order before we even got to meet them.

Basically, anything old school fans loved had to go. The villaneous Kylo Ren was useful as a weapon to destroy the Lucas legacy, but once he officially returned to the fold, it was time to kill him off.

(I've got a suspicion the scene with the flamethrower troopers could have been a bit of symbolic slyness on Kennedy's part).

And as a final touch, they randomly gave the Skywalker name to his enemy's descendant. Why? Wouldn't Solo have been more appropriate?

The Star Wars sequels were in effect Kennedy's way of turning a flamethrower on the old iteration of the Star Wars franchise and replacing it with her own.

The good news is that there are apparently now plans by Favreau and Filoni to bring Ben Solo back and actually do his character justice.

I like the theory about Ben’s essence being in Rey. Like how the dyad is explained, two that are one. He will manifest as a force ghost when she passes.

Ben Solo wakes up mid meditation when he was Luke's Padawan. We see Grogu in the same room. He has a vision of a possible future where he falls. He also sees his duad and must find her. Alternate Timeline/reboot confirmed.

When you first mentioned the idea that Ben lives on inside Rey, I was like "Oh God, no, " because to me that sounds too accepting of their sad fate. Then you continued with the possibility of Ben getting a new body somehow so he and Rey can face a new threat, and I was so relieved. Frankly, I'm okay with that idea now, or just a Force Ghost 2.0 where Ben can materialize for several hours at a time before having to go back into the aether to recharge, kind of like a battery.

As for Chris Terrio, after hearing about Duel Of The Fates and going over his other works, I've come to the conclusion that he's an idiot when it comes to telling a good story. Everyone is free to disagree with me, but this guy didn't understand a thing about the ST, and shouldn't have been allowed with 100 miles of the script for Episode 9.
