I work at TSA. I have seen people bring sewing machines through the checkpoint.

So, I can bring my "pet fish" which requires water, but I can't bring my unopened bottle of water?! Something fishy about that! 🤦

TSA doesn't allow a full bottle of shampoo but allows scissors and a freaking sewing machine

Imagine sitting in plane and the person next to you pulls out a sewing machine to make clothes during the flight.

Fishkeeper here. TSA will almost always give you the green light to bring fish on a plane, but NEVER tell the airline about it, they'll usually make you leave it behind. I learned the hard way.

I spent time in Japan. You can't own guns in Japan (practically speaking), but they make incredibly realistic replicas. I saw an all metal Airsoft MP-5 (and it didn't have an orange thing on the muzzle). I checked on the ICE website and it said it was cool in checked baggage. The look on the ICE agents face when she saw the xray of my bag in US customs was priceless, even though I told her there was a realistic replica gun in there. I had declared it, so everything was on the up-and-up but the senior guy (sheriff) she called over was NOT happy (though his younger partner was checking it out and I could see he liked it). He so badly wanted to confiscate it and arrest me but I was cooperative and did everything right. I took it home and I still have it.

As a young child I was pulled aside and given additional screening without my parents because I accidentally packed my mom’s embroidery scissors (she was teaching me how to sew at the time) in my carry-on. Including the handle they were MAYBE 4 inches, the blades were max 2 inches long. Are you telling me the TSA had no grounds to TRAUMATIZE tiny me and confiscate my mom’s very nice scissors?!
