This is exactly what I needed to see. I didn't know until watching the video what this design of staircase is called - now I know what to look for. I'm trying to steal space at ground level by 'winding' the last 3 or 4 stairs around on themselves so as to be able to lengthen a (front door) Good info. Thanks!

So helpful - I currently have a super high straight staircase that comes out within inches of my daughters room doorway. I want to wind the top to open to the landing beside it and then just have a railing off her door.

had to remake our stairs to a winder, caused the architect had different amount of treads on her drawings, and my elevation wasnt coming out. Thanks again for your videos

How much head height do I need to give for the first 5 steps in this example (including the curved bit)?

Whoops. I just commented on the other video and this one looks like it will work perfectly. This is up to regular International Residential Code? The inside turns are not less than 6” for the run? The second and third steps might cause issues with headroom for part of the stairs, but also would end up in the stairwell. (Trying to clear a 98” header that is about
foot into this at the bottom). So, it would partly overlap.

3 questions, first off how do you measure the 6inch width on the inside point, from the pivot in the corner or 6 inches from line to line. Second i never quite understood how you got the outside box corners, the center of the three looks like a diamond almost. Also I like the design and was curious about the hook on the center one, i notice that you keep one width in the center but you do extend it length ways coming to the last steps or at least that is how it looks.

I've got steep narrow basement steps and cannot make them longer due to headroom issues. I'm wondering if adding a winder at the top and bottom will let me get more treads in and therefore reduce the steepness. Can you tell me by chance, is that possible?

Currently my stairs run completely straight but I'm considering adding a wind at the top and bottom as you've proposed here.

hi great me ask you a question....I have an area which I am going to put a staircase...the heaight from floor to my platform is 88 inches..i know 8divide 88 is 11..sir my problem is I have a front wall where the step is going to land and this area is too short of a span...the length of the area is 113 inches from wall to 11 riser cannot fit in this my plan is to put a landing of 38 inches to push me away from the what I want you to help me with do I get the measurement or the workout method to make my stair stringer to fit on the platform do I get the correct workout of riser and treads.

I thought you can't build a winder on top of a landing. Isn't convention to build a winder followed by a short landing?

How do you calculate the rise, run and landing riser heights?

Are they legal ...winders at the top of the stairs ...

Your technique is just like I've built them many times... Something that will last. I've seen quite a few 'winder' stairs on here that are spanning the entire 4ft kite shape steps with no support, and it looks sketchy.
