The Orca's intelligence gives it a natural curiosity. They understand that people don't really belong in the water so they come and check what's going on, maybe even try to grasp on how to communicate with what clearly are equally intelligent creatures to them. Or maybe they see us as a bit dumb for getting on and in the water as things that swim very poorly. Who knows. Fascinating creatures nevertheless.

For those that don't know, when an orca turns belly up, it's showing submission & letting the humans know it means them no harm. That kinda makes this video even more special to see how many of them are doing that

Orcas are the largest members of the dolphin family, which explains their curiosity & their intelligence - something a lot of people don’t know surprisingly. I would absolutely LOVE to free swim w a pod, although preferably in warmer, more transparent waters (for obvious reasons) … but that will have to happen in my “next life”, since I’m a quadriplegic in this one. However, I’m perfectly satisfied w seeing all that makes them so incredible, from a boat (or a video)! My greatest hope is to get to see the wild albino orca, in person someday! Such majestic animals … it’s a sin that people can get so fixated on species that are alien, that they don’t appreciate the ones we know, which are all too often struggling for survival now!

Orcas are such beautiful, intelligent, and curious animals. Despite being the oceans apex predators, they are smart enough to know that humans aren't food, and never attack humans in the wild!!! I love them!

It never ever ceases to amaze me how orcas never attack humans in the wild. They seem to go out of their way not to hurt humans, like dolphins. How did they all get the memo on this? I can see why the native Alaskan tribes believed that man had signed a contract with the "sea demons" that gave them safe passage in the seas.

For people who haven’t seen dolphins like the Orca or whales in the wild, it’s a different type of feeling. It can take your breath away. It’s like you instantly recognize why Native American’s see them as spiritual creatures.

One of my best childhood memories: I traveled from Finland to Vancouver, Canada to visit relatives. They like salmon fishing, we were once in a boat near the coast when a family group of orcas came to check us. They didn't come as close as on the video, but it was great to see the wonderful animals do a few laps around our boat.

Orcas have been my favorite animals since I was just a little kid. I’m 31 now and still just as in love with them.

Orcas rarely are aggressive towards humans. Not only do they not see us as food (we’re honestly a tough meal) but I also think there is an understanding of us they have and we don’t know about. They always seem to be aware of what we are no matter where and when they run into us.

That being said…..there is no way I’m getting in the water with one. They’re extremely powerful animals. Even just some rough play could be lethal. They’re carnivore/ambush predators. They’re the apex predator of the ocean.

The whistling video is so interesting I wonder if maybe the orcas thought the humans were trying to communicate with them especially because of how they communicate with each other I wonder if the whistle sounded vaguely like some of their calls?
