Coming back to yoga asana practice after 6 months off to heal my body…

Most of my 30 years of practice on the mat was exploring a deep curiosity for what my body was capable of. Even after my emergency spine surgery about 7 years ago I approached my recovery with a question of: is it possible to regain flexibility and even go deeper?

As I return to my practice this time around my question is different- how can I adapt each posture for my body’s needs and which ones do I need to avoid to not trigger pain? Whereas before my goal was pushing my bodies limits now it is honoring those limits and finding pain free movement no matter what it looks like.

I cannot answer the question why some of us move pain free in their bodies and others don’t but I think it’s my curiosity that has kept me devoted to my yoga practice after 30 years of practice in spite of my spine condition❤️‍🩹

If you’re feeling stuck or unmotivated on or off your mat find a question you don’t know the answer to that excites you and enjoy the journey of discovery ❤️

Keep practicing 🫶🏽

So grateful for you posting I stopped doing yoga after the sudden death of our newborn son two years ago and for the longest time could not find my connection with the practice again. Now I'm finally feeling like trying to get back on the mat, but it's so hard to start over when I could do a headstand before and now can't even do a chaturanga. This post is so encouraging to be present with your journey no matter where you are and what it looks like.

Yoga ladies I know have a quiet, fierce life-honoring power about them, amazing embodiments of the Divine Mother herself. They never cease to amaze me. 🙏✨🌹

Can you please share your spinal injury story? I’ve seen you comment but you haven’t shared. As a RYT500 myself this would really inspire.

❤Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar. Antonio Machado : Traveler, your footprints
are the only road, nothing else.
Traveler, there is no road;
you make your own path as you walk.
As you walk, you make your own road,
and when you look back
you see the path
you will never travel again.
Traveler, there is no road;
only a ship’s wake on the sea. Translated by M.G.Berg / D.Maloney

What's a big deal? It's part of doing a workout. I came to watch something meaningful and YouTube just wasted my time.
