Modify time delay relay module so the timer starts automatically, INSTANT ON, delay off auto-start

You can easily modify a relay timer control module to auto-start or self- initialize at Power On. This Instant On feature can be very useful in many applications where you want the timing sequence to start immediately when power is applied. No additional pushbutton switch or operator action is required to start the timer. These off the shelf time delay relays are very economical and reliable. The specific module used in this video operates over a very wide DC voltage range - 5 to 30 VDC. This modification creates an INSTANT ON, TIME DELAYED OFF device. I have tested this circuit modification with both a 5V USB power supply as well as 12VDC battery connected to the V+ and V- and the timer works AUTOMATICALLY as expected.

See comment below from quick _dry who says "even simpler, this will work with just a 2.2uF cap from V- to Trig" .

Much appreciated. I should have those caps and resistors hanging around. I hardly do any hobby electronics anymore but I'm not dense. If the suppliers of these things, and there are many on Aliexpress, used the term "Trigger" or "Pulse" in the title I would have looked for something else. I want the delay timer starting to count as soon as it receives power from motorcycle circuits and alternately to keep the GPS and USB charger powered if I'm just going to be 5 or 10 minutes from the bike for example - then shut off if I take longer.

AWESOME TIMER! I say this because I have been searching on line for more than two months for this exact type of timed relay, making phone calls and sending emails to manufacturers & sellers and kept hitting a brick wall. I know we aren’t the only people that need something like this so why couldn’t I find it ?, . I’m guessing since you had to alter this device, that such a timer in its original state, doesn’t exist and the only way to achieve this is to make the modification to this one. So, I thank you for figuring this out how to modify this device to operate this way and for making this video and technical information available. I will most likely ruin a few of these before I get it right but that’s par for the course when it comes to electronics and me. If you ever thought about making the modified version available, ready to go out of the box, let me know along with a price, please. I just closed my Aliexpress account out of frustration with the site and the overwhelming issues with bad sellers and won’t be rejoining anytime in the foreseeable future. So, another thank you for allowing us to order the device through the link you provided. Seriously, let me know about the possibility of purchasing a “ready to go” version directly from you lol.

I wanted to use this relay with a PIR sensor or the RCWL-0516 sensor but found that the TRIG pin on this relay has a constant 4.70v and unsuitable to hook up to a sensor. I wanted to activate this relay with a sensor so it ran a musical box movement, really pissed.

Sometimes you get lucky, Im using this same module and I have the following problem:
Im using an ESP32 processor in an autonomous vehicle and it seems as the ESP32 do not boot on powerup.
My idea was to powerup and set the reset pin of the ESP32 to low thru the relay.
Now I can.
Just what I needed.
Thx.

Works PERFECTLY with 10K resistor and 10uf capacitor! THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

I am looking for a very simple circuit to build yet have found it hard to find. Simply power the circuit on with any voltage from 5-12 volts and nothing happens. Then you push a momentary switch and the relay is triggered for a set amount of time then turns off. All of the delayed timer "on" circuits I have found start the timer immediately when the power is turned on. Can someone help? Again I'm look for something I can build. Thanks!

In diagram v+ and v- connect with resistor but in video you apply v- direct to elco- and v+ connect resistor to elco+ and trig.. Thats make me confuse, can you explain that, thanks

thanks for the video
but what we do if I want the counter start to count when I relase my finger or cut the power?
I mean i want it delay off..
when i press power the light turn on and when I cut power off the light turn off after 5second

YuDaMan, thank for sharing. I'm not a electronically experienced guy, so please don't shoot me for dummy question :)
Is it possible to make the module activate a countdown timer by closing the load cirquit?
For example by electrochemical etching/marking of metals would be super to start countdown timer when you touch the workpiece with electrode. With DC etching it's very simple - the voltage range is practically the same, you can use the working load current as power supply but what to do if you make AC marking?

could you please tell me how can I connect the IR obstacle sensor to start the timer ??

Thanks a lot for sharing this! Just a question: you "short-circuited" the +v and -v with 10k Resistor. Does it means the resistor will keep consuming power? I want to use this delay module for turning on 12v led lamp in bathroom, powered by small 12v battery (the Capasitor on the PCB need to be changed into bigger one to get more delay of approx 8 minutes). My intention is that the module shouldn't consume too much power during standby mode. Appreciate for your feedback!

Great idea! would it be possible to make the relay stay on less than 3 seconds? let's say 1 second?

Great idea!
I need this solution but in 24 Dc
and i need use directly on input + & - .
What os the best capacitor and resistance for it.
Thanks.
