The KinGrinder P1: Why A Cheap Hand Grinder Has Me A Little Excited

I worry I was a bit harsh on the Hario grinder in this, as it got a lot of us started in our journey of coffee at home. I certainly don't regret selling them. I'm just excited to see changes happening at the lower end of the market.

10 minutes after this vid went live and it's sold out for US at least. GG, James.

6:33 Timestamp going from 48 seconds to 50 seconds for "a bit more bonus coffee" is exactly a nerdy editing detail I watch this channel for

"200 is a lot more than 33" is the sort of in-depth analysis I love from James <3

I really appreciate the evolution of your channel from "spend more money its worth it" to "I am so giddy to find something special and affordable" *product sells out in minutes*

James is finally catching up with the elite budget handgrinders us peasants have been using for years

I literally got this exact grinder yesterday as a mere act of faith as there were not many reviews of it and I will not be able to purchase another grinder for quite some time (hard to get online sold products in my country)

As a beginner coffee nerd, seeing this video uploaded the very next day by none other than James Hoffman was one of the happiest moments for me in a long time.

Saw the video while drinking my second v60 poured using this grinder with a huge smile on my face. ❤️

Pro tip for anyone with an old Hario mini mill lying around. It's probably the best black pepper grinder I've ever used. But only do that if you've retired it from coffee, since it makes for spicy brews (as I found out the hard way).

I've been using a KINGrinder K2 for the last 4 months. I love the quality and the grind variability. After looking through CoffeeYoutube, I was almost convinced that I would never be able to make good drinks at home for less than thousands of dollars. After watching many hours of coffee YouTube and understanding what was important about dialing in, I would go to my local favorite cafe and order a flat white once a week and come home and make myself 3-4 more drinks to try and replicate their drink. I would say that after 2 weeks, I got the espresso right and that the milk frothing took me three weeks to get right. And now, armed with a KINGrinder K2, De'Longhi Stilosa EC260BK and a few budget accessories (tamper, distribution tool and good cups) I can make espresso drinks that are comparable to all the best shops in Dallas, TX and even impress my barista friends that work with big money industrial machines.

I can make beautiful and delicious espresso drinks at home with a total spend of near $200. The KINGrinder K2 was the key to unlock my home scientist process to replicate the drinks from local cafes within about 5 grind attempts.

I'd love to see a p0, p1, p2 comparison with the particle analyser and cupping!

"There's something wrong with me...but why am I confessing that to you?"

Oh, James, we already knew that. But that's also the appeal.

I just want to share some of my experience here:
I'm a barista from Brazil, and here our wages start around R$2K a month (which translates to USD 390, EU 360 and BP 310)... so not a lot of money to buy coffee accessories from other countries. White label Chinese grinders (very similar to this one or Timemore products) have been good for a while, and specialty grade national coffee is quite accessible making the best result for something that an average Brazilian can enjoy.

That "Ooh Bonus Coffee" and updated volume stamp was thoroughly satisfying 🤣

Please test all three KinGrinders side by side, P0 P1 P2 and analyze their particle sizes, that would be fascinating!

I was once on a drill rig in the middle of a mine in the middle of nowhere mexico and the driller made me a cup of coffee using a hand grinder attached to a power drill and an aeropress. Considering the circumstances, best cup of coffee I have ever had.

This video is a demonstration of two things:
1) investment aside, if a group has interest in developing an idea, it will be slowly optimized to cost either the same for higher quality, or cost less for the same result;
2) law of diminishing returns, as is true to many products, means that paying X times more does NOT mean 3 times better performance.

It is an amazing video!

I bought the K6 KINGrinder 2 years ago @ $99 after a year of research. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! It also doubles as a weapon if you’re burgled; it’s a friggin’ tank!

Pro tip: 1Zpresso grinders have a 1/4 shank. The shaft fits perfectly into a 6" Diablo drill extension, and it even locks in.
