Voldemort definitely didn’t want to kill Snape. I also like the theory that he gave Snape a slower death as a ‘reward’ - he uses the Killing Curse to instantly remove those he sees as inferior or vermin, like swatting flies, so he showed Snape the ‘respect’ of not just brushing him away so-to-speak and allowing him the ‘dignity’ of a slower death. There’s also the fact that Voldemort is mortally terrified of death and sees it as being the worst thing imaginable, so by giving Snape longer to live by not instantly killing him could be another facet to the show of twisted favour.
