Getting to know Jasmine Choi on a more personal level like this makes me love her even more!

The key noise was the thing that helped me guess which flute was the cheap one :) Great video, thank you!

I love these kinds of videos because a master of anything can make the lowest level of their craft sound good, but the amount of effort needed will make a beginner go crazy in a short amount of time. It’s important to acknowledge this with students.

3:22 if you guys can’t tell, the expensive flute is slightly longer because there an extra key on the foot joint. The B foot joint is used for an extra low note and to make the higher notes like high C and D, speak easier.

Very worth mentioning as well - the cheaper a flute is, the more likely a repairer won't want to touch it, as adjustments won't hold and the repair will possibly end up costing more than the instrument. Whereas, the better the flute, the easier it is to repair, and to keep it playing for a lifetime!

Pro horn player here. I knew it!!!! The clicking, amount of effort I could see in your face, and the difference in the richness of sound gave it away. To the untrained ear, I could see how people couldn’t tell a difference. I’ll have you do this with my beginner horn and my current double horn.

The keys' sounds allowed me to guess which flute was the Amazon one ☺ But it's nice that good entry level flutes are not terribly expensive. Great video 🥰

THE QUALLTY of the 69$ flute is so good i thought its the real one but after i did saw that you were able to do a little more accurate in 50k one so i went with the best quality i heard instead of better accurately

This is the first time one of her vids inspired me. It was basically an assurance that I don't have to sell everything I own to play.

Interesting! One thing I’ve noticed in this and similar videos, is when pro musicians play different tier instruments, the difference of sounds quality isn’t that crazy.

But when I upgraded my flute from a 500 to a 3000 euro model, the improvement in sound seamed waaaay more massive to me.

I almost think that upgrading instruments has more impact on the growth of a student. While a
pro can make any instrument sound amazing. What do you think Jasmine?

I knew flute 1 was the cheaper one from the first playing because I heard the clacking of the keys but honestly, I could've been fooled if I wasn't paying attention cuz you make it sound so great😅

The only difference i noticed was $49, 931 dollars !!!

This is a great video! I like how you mention that you can work to make the $69 flute sound really good. I mostly heard the difference as slightly more airiness, random air puffs, and very loud key sounds. The main thing I would worry about the flute from amazon is that it might break down more easily and a repairman would find it very difficult to repair.

I was looking for some pure sounds and your video came up. Thank you for sharing. I wonder if some superfine sandpaper might help with cork and joints in a cheap flute. Your ability to produce such clear sound switching from a brand new instrument to one you are familiar with is amazing. These AIs they talk about, it is the human that ultimately brings value to that instrument. Richard Collins, The Internet Foundation

I also play flute. I just upgraded two years ago to a Yamaha allegro. My first flute which I still have is Gemeinhart and it plays beautifully but I can't do as much dynamic variation because it is older and harder to play. I did try a newer Gemeinhart out when we were trying to figure out what I was upgrading to but I personally preferred the Yamaha more.
