How to Export MIDI in GarageBand

A quick work around for those of you looking to export MIDI files from GarageBand!
NOTE: As of now, this method does not work on OSX 10.15 Catalina. Catalina does not support 32 bit applications.

Super appreciate this! Just want to add as a PSA, if you’re using garageband 10.6.3 the user loop folder is hidden so you have to press ‘go’ in the toolbar while pressing option and the correct library folder appears where you can then follow all the steps said 👌🏼👌🏼

Hola!! Si alguien habla español y no ha podido encontrar el LOOP que ha guardado, finalmente lo he logrado, todo está en ingles y tal vez alguien como yo no logre encontrar esta capeta llamada "librería"...

Hagan esto... Click en FINDER > click en IR (en la barra superior de la pantalla) > se despliega un menú, presionar ALT mientras está ese menú abierto > a continuación podrán ver la carpeta buscada llamada LIBRERIA (Haz click en esta mientras presionas ALT y abrela) > AUDIO > APPLE LOOPS > USER LOOPS > SINGLE LOOPS > y ya está !!

Well, today, end of April 2020, using High Sierra, I can't find my 'user loops' and a Spotlight search for the files by name (I called the Loop 1, Loop 2 etc) doesn't throw up anything.

Rip to the Catalina users. My macbook pro won't even open the application unless the developer "updates" it. Any work around for that?

Note in a Mac running 10.13 and Garageband 10.3, to get to the .aif it seems you have to 1) lock the track in GB, 2) play the file in GB so it creates .aifs of all locked files, 3) in the Finder, select the .band file containing the loop, 4) right-click and choose Show Package Contents; 5) find the .aif. Now, from my Mac I am not able to move that file to the Desktop—it just processes forever and never moves it. I am also not able to copy it—ditto. But I was able to upload it to Dropbox and then use the link to download it to my HD.

any reason why I can't select "loop" for type after adding to library? It's grayed out ands will only accept one-shot.

Thank you so much! With the whole situation going on, I had to create a song for an online class in college. Created the entire thing in GarageBand and now had to put it in Sibelius... This saved me so much time, thank you!

Thank you, Apple really makes it hard to move things from new to old, and exporting to midi is the best way to do it ... I just find it hard working with flat design, which is why I prefer using the old version to work in than the new version.

but when i open the " apple loops" i can't find the "user loop"
i have no idea how to fix this?

How nice. Apple has apparently closed this loophole as there is no "user loops" folder any more.

Doesn't work - GB2MIDI won't run on Mac OS 15.15.5 (current version in July 2020). Any other solutions? Thanks much for posting tho!
