Best coach ever!!! I have had multiple coaches on the court, but Ryan is the only one who can explain the technique in detail.

Hi Ryan! You helped me again. I play one handed backhand, but as an instructor I have to teach two handed for some students. Ok, I knew already the details, but it's good to be sure about the check points. And I can show this video to my students. Thank You! Frank (Budapest, Hungary, Europe) :)

There's a subtle thing he does with his left foot as well...when he plants that foot, he synchronizes it with the backswing or unit turn and you can also see that he drops it back around 45 degrees to his front foot...this is the most efficient & versatile position to strike from...he steps in on this one with his right foot an instant after dropping the plant foot

I find myself hitting my two handed backhand the same way I used to hit a baseball when I played baseball. I could hit from both sides of the plate so I feels normal to hit the ball that way, it’s only when I started trying different techniques to hit the two handed backhand did I start messing up my swing and timing! So I went back to the old way and people asked if I got coached, and I told them Barry Bonds taught me how to hit a two handed backhand! 😊

Awesome description. Some nice verbal cues too. These days, I'm always looking at the feet. Love the weight transfer from backfoot to frontfoot.

Good point mentioning the hip rotation, I need to make that a habit as sometimes I be just using my arms in that situation

Thank you for the tutorial. I can see how the torso rotation would naturally lead to a racket drop, but I’m not sure how best to close the racket face. Should the bottom hand close the racket or the top?
Cheers!

Very helpful thanks, I wasn't closing racket face or extending enough; much better feel now.

Thanks, Ryan! I like watching Mackenzie play because he's average size, unlike most of the super tall players on tour.

The key you didn’t mention was the back shoulder (left) started and remained higher than the front shoulder until contact. Even the back (left) hip remained just higher than the right hip. Also helped by the front (right) leg bending more in the front swing. Similar to the golf swing.

Okay, this tennis backhand tutorial is great and all, but I tried it and ended up hitting the ball into a different zip code! Time to call NASA, I'm serving for space exploration now! 🚀🎾 😄
