The vertebrae thing is on point.

20 years ago while taking an intermediate biology class in college, my dissection group kept getting marked down for reporting the wrong number of them on every mammal and amphibian we took apart.

Finally we insisted that the teacher observe an entire process with us so that she could point out how we were “losing” or “adding” vertebrae.

When the 2 sacrificial mice 🐁 had 1 more and 2 less vertebrae than they were “supposed to” she freaked out and started checking all the other autopsies spread throughout the class.

She reluctantly restored our lost points on previous assignments, but had no explanation.

I do: starting at the classroom level, many present and future “scientists” report what the books (or google) tells them they are supposed to get. This reinforces the lack of variability, diversity, and previous errors in the study of nature.

On a related note, my chemistry lab partner and I often had the furthest-from-expected results on basic measurements like titration, ph, first year stuff. When we checked with the retired industrial chemist who volunteered as a lab assistant, he said not to worry, that a dozen measurements in a row can vary by 20% because of time of day, sun cycles, and the transmitting power of a local FM antenna. He said that most students repeat the experiments/measurements several times until they get close to the theoretically expected result, and report that one.

I was shocked at the time, but like theology, much of the consensus and simplicity presented by “science” now seems to me just good PR to keep the muggles revering the priest-class and trusting whatever they sell, literally or figuratively.

Amazing work as always, Robert. I feel that these myths and legends are misinterpreted and dismissed as unimportant only because they are taken literally. It only takes a simple examination to see that common themes are found throughout the myths of antiquity, and if examined under the right context, could break the code of our unknown heritage as a race.
