I wasted a whole day yesterday trying to figure out why this update wouldn’t install. I rebooted, used storage sense to clean out unnecessary files and open more disk space, took the problem to the MS forums. Many had the same issue. I was dismayed and concluded I had to tinker with my C drive partition, which is also a guest on the iMac system, where I used boot camp to create the partition.

I was going to reduce the Winre partition to 250 mg and then enlarge it, so that the new update would install.

I have been subscribed to your channel for a long time but don’t always get notifications. I am so happy, so relieved that I found you this morning. You have saved me from a potential calamity. I am a graphic artist not a tech guy.

Thank you so much. You are my hero! Your videos are always so informative. Thank you my friend!

It seems that Microsoft forgot to think from the perspective of a non tech savvy person. I am very surprised how they can let users fix this problem on their own using commands that shouldn't be run by an inexperienced person.

Thanks so much for this. This has been bugging me for months and Microsoft still haven't fixed it (as of May 2024) - I have now solved it thanks to your video and have hidden the update. (The Computer in question is a recon laptop from 2012, recovery partition is only 643Mb in size - doesn't have Bitlocker enabled)

You're the man. Thanks for an exceedingly simple resolution to a four-month old headache (and for your editorializing about Microsoft's ineptitude).

First of all, I hate partitions and refuse to put them on my hard disk. So my computer is not affected by this issue. Nonetheless, I still ended up with one of the "Security updates" refusing to download causing a blue screen and memory error issue. In that context, this video was very helpful in getting rid of that stuck download.

After trying so many different suggested fixes to sort out this problem I tried this and Wow it actually worked. I no longer have an update constantly trying to install. Many thanks

Thanks so much!
My inner Monk wouldn't have come to rest with this always showing up until MS decides to correct their mistake.
Worked perfectly fine for me.
And even though new updates from today have not been blocked by this piece of 💩I prefer to not being reminded all the time of a useless update that didn't work as it should..
Thank you!

the amount of hypocrisy from microsoft to just tell you "sorry if you can't figure this out, you are on your own" instead of even trying to fix the issue themselves they just leave it to the people to go figure with all that random instruction.

well....I appreciate the fact that at least I know it's a universal problem and I can skip the update, but the tool did not work and didn't hide the update. I could install the updates that came later but that update is still there saying it failed
EDIT: my bad, I was too hasty since it showed up after a reboot but I just had to click on "check for updates again". Thank you very much for the help

My Hardware is Ryzen 9 5900x, on an x570 chipset, 32 GB RAM, OS is on a 1 TB NVMe. My win recovery partition is 522 MB and is "too small" for this BUGGY update. I am on Win 10 PRO and NOT using the BitLocker. I am tech savvy and I REFUSE to run the command line JUST TO get this thing to work. ALSO Thank you for putting a link TO THE OFFICIAL TOOL to hide specific updates!

The average user would likely just mess this up if they attempted MIcrosoft's 'fix'.
I did manage to DO it (increase the WinRE recovery partition size) on an older Win10 computer I don't use much. But you have to be super careful. Especially as they don't really identify what some of the terms are and where you find them. Things like <OS disk index>, <OS partition index> and <WinRE partition index>.
And you'd THINK the command 'sel disk<OS disk index>' means you type in 'sel disk0' (with zero for the disk index). But in fact you have to leave a space between 'disk' and the index number (0) -As in 'sel disk 0'
And the 'OS partition index' refers to the partition number you find in the path when you type in 'reagentc /info' (the first step). It'll look like 'partition2' (meaning 2 is the 'partition index).
And the 'WinRE partition index' is actually the 'Recovery' partition number. Found by typing in 'list part' at the appropriate time.
Way too complicated for the average user.
But I DID manage it and it worked. And I'm 75 years old!

I immediately could tell that that the command line stuff is something newbies should not be trying. A newbie isn't going to necesarily be sure which partition is their OS partition, which is their recovery partition, especially if they have multiple drives. You would want to have had command prompt and diskpart experience of some kind.

I installed the tool and checked off "Hide" KB5034441 but it still appears in Windows updates.
