I used to think you needed a chainsaw for this type of fire.

Here's an easy way to do it while camping in the backcountry.

A Swedish torch is cut up, this is a rocket stove

A Swedish torch is a log split into 3 or 4 chunks with the inside of each being shaved down a bunch then all tied back together with wire or rope it essentially looks just like the one this guy had minus having to find a rotting log

If it's full of fungi or mold. Burn it well before you cook on it

A Swedish torch is a log, cut in quarters and then chip a bit off the inside. wrapped back together has the gap for a true Swedish torch

👍🏼 What's really great is you can find a dry, well seasoned chunk of elm that size! If you pound REALLY HARD on the heartwood (dark part at the center), it will pop through in one piece! Makes an excellent, l-o-n-g burning campfire! 👍🏼😎✌🏼

For this style, (Rocket Stove) you can also use the ashes to make lye. Just tilt the semi-burned log and pour animal fat down the insides and the fat and ash will create a lye/fat mixture that you can set and make hard soap out of. Make sure to mix it and that the fat and log are not hot. Usually should drip cold liquid fat.

I saw a video where the guy took a small saw and cut 5-6 equal length branches — approx @ at 3-4” round x 14” long, plus a piece that was only about 6” high.

He used some wire and stood the uprights around the short piece and held it together with a 2’ length of wire he Carrie’s in his pack.

He packed the center with tinder and had a nice fire to place his pot on to cook.

Maybe classed as a rocket stove, as said not a swedish torch, 4 hours? The base will collapse pretty quickly, either light a normal fire or a dakota fire pit if you need concealment.

Great example of proper cooking! using the open flames with protected food and only placing food directly on the grill when the flames die out.
cooking on aluminum foil is not so good due to leeching but ig it's alright if done sparsely

I don't have the knowledge about this
But after seeing some of these videos, it is having lots of different strategies...
You utilize the strategy that works with what you find

Show me how to make the other kind of swiss touch. You know the one where the logs Is split three ways and wired together at the bottom with a little gaps between them.

whether or not it's a true Swedish torch it accomplishes the same thing. bushcraft is about making what's available work and with as little effort as possible.

Why would you remove the rot? That's how you get it to start up easier. I mean I guess you core out the front a bit to make sure it burn downs but the rot will burn a lot quicker.
