The whole getting ready scene is so heartbreaking 💔 I felt so sorry for Elizabeth that she kept comparing herself to Sue and thinking that she isn't worthy of even her former classmate

So many of us have lived variations of this scene so many times, holding ourselves back because we never feel good enough, going back to the mirror over and over again. Never seen a movie capture it so viscerally before.

This was by far the scariest and most heartbreaking scene in the movie. Seriously, aside from all the body horror and grotesque scenes that didn't make me feel all that much. But this one scene is just so real and emotionally raw truly a psychological horror in its purest form. Even as a man I can relate to her dissatisfaction. That one time you really want to put yourself out there but there's just something about your appearance that you just can't be satisfied with which prevents you from going out and living your life. A pimple or hair out of place that just doesn't subside, a piece of clothing you'd wear that doesn't suit you anymore so you just keep changing and changing. But no matter what you do you cannot be satisfied and cannot help but feel ugly. It's too real and horrifying.

This scene hurts and shows her inner turmoil. We, the viewsers, see an incredibly beautiful woman and had she gone on that date, Fred would have been memorized by her. Instead, she sees every single imperfection that society has deemed "ugly" and her career ruined for the crime of aging.
