Spain is taking the lead in post-Covid recovery in Europe. While Germany and France, usually the European Union's top performers, are teetering dangerously close to recession, the Spanish economy saw growth of 2.5% in 2023 – five times higher than the eurozone average. Tourist numbers are booming, with a new hotel opening every four days, and unemployment is at its lowest since 2008.

People complaining when the economy is bad, people complaining even more when the economy is booming 🤦🏽‍♀️

el monocultivo del turismo, burbujas y ruido. Salarios bajos, precariedad y hambre mañana. Siempre dependientes de que otros vengan a pegarse la fiesta aquí.. una industria cruel una realidad incómoda.

Sorry there is one aspect that is not mentioned: electricity costs have become very low for people and industry in Spain due to major investments from the private sector in wind & solar power since this Government came into power in 2018. Industries which were considering leaving Spain, now are staying, as there are moments during the day that electricity costs are 0 . Spain has been selling more electricity to France in the last 3 years than buying, which means industries can stay or invest in Spain instead of going to coal burning countries or nuclear power producing countries. Cheap electricity means the desalination plants can be used and do not make electricity more expensive raising the demand; the future green hydrogen is based on this premise. Spain is not the only country in Europe that is producing each time more wind and solar energy and this translates to the EU being independent from an energy stand point. Therefore to talk about Spain's economic situation and not mentioning this fact makes this report very poor.

What will happen when the tourists will struggle to pay for their holidays. Barcelona tourist housing prices have gone up up up since covid and now airlines are more expensive than they use to be. I think it will make the fall even harder for them unfortunately. Spain is a great country with great people who are sadly struggling to house themselves and they aren’t the only ones.

Precarious jobs, low salaries, everything mostly focused on tourism and construction... Very similar to the 2000s. Many of us know how then things ended.

What nonsense. Instead of developing a sector focused on technology they are expanding tourism

Let's see the GDP per capita... if GDP is a good measure. Spain is now further away from European average GDP per capita than in 1995.

Spain has extremely entitled but low productivity population, that considers fairly high QoL as basic human rights, that is NOT conditional upon their achievement or hard work.
