Berta Jay's Advice for
WASHING & CUTTING UP
YOUR LEAFY GREENS
-------------------------------------------
. Separate the leaves
. Spray with a vegetable wash to get off dirt and grit
.Massage each leaf
.Rinse each leaf thoroughly

TO CUT UP YOUR GREENS:
.Stack 5-8 (maybe more depending on size) and roll tightly
.Cut across the roll (perpendicular to the rolled greens)
.Place in bowl for cooking after all greens are cut

Here's a link for the Seitenbacher vegetable broth powder; however, I pick it up at Whole Foods for about half the cost:

My objective for this channel is to share with others what I have learned over the last 30+ years about living and eating healthier. I share my knowledge with my small circle of friends all the time. I am not a doctor, nor do I hold any type of medical degree, but I believe that my tried experiences may help someone else.

For over 30 years I have used every diet imaginable to lose weight, but I confess that I am now at home using the vegan lifestyle. I want to share what I have learned about eating and enjoying food. And, since I am still learning how to be more consistent with this lifestyle, I have decided to eat more healthily, realizing the weight will come off eventually. Though I have not reached my goal weight, I know that sharing with other people in front of a camera with help me to stay on course.

I have, with the help of my husband of 37 years, raised 3 grown children. I will also share some cooking shortcuts as well as some natural formulas I have used and still use for everyday problems.

Oh Berta, this is one of my most favorite dishes and it has been all my life. But after I became plant-based I wondered how it would taste without smoked ham hocks in it. One day when I was getting ready to fix my greens I bowed my head and said God what can I do to make these taste a little better and I kid you not the word liquid smoke went through my mind. I got in my cabinet sure enough I had a bottle of liquid smoke. I added just a few drops and it made all the difference in the world. Still loving all of your videos. I hope you have a great week much love from Ohio 💕

I just visited your site. Thanks for the tips. I've never tried kale or swiss chard. Have mainly used collard greens, spinach and cabbage as my go to. I will begin to explore.

Thank you Berta. It is always a pleasure to watch you work. You are the first person I have seen who is like me and likes small cuts. I have "skirted" away from greens most if my life for some reason - only to now discover I need them to help fight this macular degeneration. Thank you again, I is a pleasure vto spend time with you

Hi Berta Jay, I personally do a vinegar and water in my sink, and leave my greens soaking for a half hour then rinse and spin them.
I don’t cook my greens, I use them for smoothies every other day and salads daily. All time consuming, but worth it.
Thanks for your version 👍❤️😊

Hey-Hey, Miss Berta🙋🏿‍♀️I'm a big time gardener with my husband and greens get dirty😖... you gotta wash them and wash them good! 👍🏿

just looked up how to make your own veg wash..1. 2 cups of cold tap water, 1/4 cup of white vinegar, and 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Mix these ingredients well together and pour into a spray bottle. Squirt your produce 2-3 times, let it rest for two minutes, and then rinse off with more tap water before consuming.

I freeze my cut up raw greens ad then add to my soups before I heat it up. I sautée them and add eggs. Sauté and use in stews or in fajitas.

Yes Berta, the process to clean/ rinse is important. I freeze the greens in a baggie then crush when greens are frozen. It is a good way to have smaller bits in the smoothie blender. Im encouraged thanks😃💓

Hi Berta I never had swiss chard because I didn't know what to do with it and kale I just ate it in a salad. Now I can cook it with your instructions. Thank you so much. Lori Schreiner

Love your you tube channel, Mrs Berta! Have you ever made sliceable vegan cheese? I’ve seen some made with tapioca. Something to solidify it. But ingredients are varied. Hope you’ll show us how to make one. Best wishes to you and yours.
