Ask a butcher if you should wash your chiken, not your phone.

Washing meat, chicken, fish etc. seems to be a cultural thing more than anything since there are so many "you should/you should not" arguments when it comes to this. Normally you don't just wash with water, you wash with vinegar, salt, lemon juice etc. And once done, you wash the sink as well.

Think it all started with buying produce directly from butchers and it would be covered in dirt, blood, feathers, feces and stuff.

You didnt wash the chicken. Washing means you put the chicken in a bowl of water mixed with lemon, and salt or vinegar and salt, etc. Rub the chicken in that solution and let sit for 20/ 30 mins. It makes a difference.

"you're gonna spread germs everywhere if you wash your chicken"
What do you expect, don't put the chicken under the damn water on blast if you don't want germs spreading everywhere.
Put water in a pot, add lime juice and white vinegar then put the chicken inside without making a mess 🤷🏽‍♂️

It's not about taste. It's about splashing gross chicken water all over your kitchen and spreading germs.

This is literally only a thing in America.. And unless you like spreading salmonella and e-coli around your kitchen you really shouldn’t do it..

Hold on so the reason to not wash chicken is cause spreading germs everywhere? Don’t ya wash the sink and counters after ya finish anyways ?

I used to not wash, then I tried rinsing off the grocery store gunk + drying with paper towels and it tastes better.

The Spreading salmonella talking point is not valid enough to be taken seriously I have been eating the cooking of people who wash their meat all my life and no one has had any issues. plus sometimes people trim the fat off meat using water while cleaning off the slime, blood or what ever they put in the meat.

In other words, "are you white or not?"

It's not about taste.
Take swab tests of the sink and surrounding areas and send them for microbiological testing.

I wash my chicken with vinegar and lime juice. For me it cuts the rawness and gives it a better flavor to me. I generally do it with a meats.

I love how both of them have different opinions. Better than the staged videos where they pay everyone to say what they want to hear

As a chef I recommend you don’t wash your chicken you’re essentially spreading salmonella around your kitchen especially the tap (you have to open the tap to wash your hands) salmonella spreading is so common we have separate boards for chicken only

The only way to remove the salmonella is by cooking it through to a safe temperature of 74°C
The one thing I highly recommend washing are fruits and vegetables (they can carry e.coli) especially green leafy vegetables

I’ve settled on Costco chickens.
They are already cooked.
I can cook it more and make it different if I like.
What I get is all I wanna eat then plus a number of hundred gram packages of chicken in my freezer and a bunch of chicken bones to later make bone broth. Yum

Raw chicken makes a mess of my kitchen and it’s so oily

Grew up in a house that always washed meat. Tried the unwashed, and it tasted gamy.

Safe to eat unwashed? Yes. Still better to wash the chicken? My answer will always be yes.

I mean besides taste & texture…we cook food to rid it of any harmful bacteria. If that’s the case we should wash all proteins
