Some people in my comments tell me I shouldn't a criminal defense attorney because I only represent criminals. But, the real reason I am a criminal defense attorney is for INNOCENT people who are accused of crimes by the cops. Cases like Thomas Perez Jr., where he was accused of unaliving his own father, when his father was alive and well at the airport. If Thomas Perez Jr. knew he had the right to call his attorney and not be subjected to the things I mention in this video, he would have been saved a lot of emotional stress and heartbreak.

This isn't a new case, either. This case just happened THIS year and Thomas Perez Jr. was awarded $900,000 for the actions of the police.

He filed a missing persons report for his father and instead of doing thier jobs and looking for the person. They arrested the son and toutured him until he confessed so they could close the case without having to actually do any work. His father was fine and already back home at that point. These cops should be in prison.

If you’re guilty, you need a lawyer. If you’re innocent, you REALLY need a lawyer

Perez got paid $900K. unfortunately, it was taxpayer money. it should come out of the police union pension fund.

All anyone ever talks about is the $900k he received in a settlement from the police. I wish someone would confirm these police officers have been fired and banned from doing police work ever again.

"Advanced interrogation techniques", or as it's referred to when a civilian does it, "Kidnapping, torture, and deprivation of human rights".

Denied his prescription medication is a major lawsuit .

Those cops belong in prison for life for torturing an innocent man.

Most videos don't do this case justice.

They held Perez for five hours before beginning the interrogation. They found his father alive and well at an airport around the four hour mark before even beginning. They knew the crime never happened before they even spoke to Perez.

They tried to get the animal shelter to euthanize the dog, claiming it was vicious and had attacked an officer. The shelter knew a good boy when they saw one and were able to return the dog.

When he finally confessed (after being given chemical restraint drugs) they told the judge that obviously he killed somebody even if his dad was alive. They got a warrant for his house and just trashed the place, no attempt to search for evidence.

They then charged him with lying to police for the false confession, and it was only at this point that the judge and prosecutor (who had seen the interrogation tapes before the search warrant and knew the whole story) finally got cold feet.

The case was so ridiculous that the lawyer the man hired initially refused to beleive him and rejected the case. A lawyer who's made hundreds of millions of dollars for clients suing the LAPD for decades could still not comprehend a case this unbelievable.

Lastly the "flood gate" defense was used in court (they only settled after a judge denied every avenue of immunity) - the police claimed none of this was unusual and if Perez were allowed to sue then potentially hundreds of others might be emboldened to follow.

As a person who need meds to live and not have complete mental break, this is torture. True evil also went after his dog.

This is a prime example of why the first words out of your mouth should always be “I want to speak to a lawyer.”

I remember this, they got him to confess to a murder that never happened. His father wasn’t even dead, but they got him to confess to murdering him. These torture techniques are crazy.

Police's _only job_ is to incriminate you. The Supreme Court literally ruled that they have no duty to protect people. The more criminals they make, they "better" they've done their job.

Cops see being able to make an innocent person confess to a crime they didn't commit as a badge of honor — that's how screwed up the entire system is.

Torture, trial by jury. False imprisonment, assault, kidnapping. Qualified immunity is over, go to prison in your police uniform.
