Is Pokémon Scarlet and Violet a great game now?

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has been out for over a year now and has had 2 DLC expansions.
The game didn’t release in an acceptable state as it was riddled with glitches, bugs and performance issues. Yet, it still received a great reception due to a compelling story and a fresh new take on the Pokemon formula by being the first open world Pokemon game.

I haven’t played the game for a number of months so I thought it would be worth revisiting to see how the game holds up and if any of the performance issues have been sorted.

Thank you for watching and follow me on my socials!

Pokémon Ruby / Emerald and Pokémon Heart Gold with 16 badges will always be GOAT

One thing I really liked was the added textures to the models. Wow it really added a lot to see the fur or the shiny metal

This game would have been perfect if it had

1. Great performance
2. Arceus catching mechanics
3. Gym leaders and trainers that scale to your badge level

Pokémon is the most successful franchise in the history of entertainment and therefore it needs to be held to a higher standard than it currently is. The Pokémon Company and Game Freak need to quit being so lazy. Generally speaking, they've been taking the easy route and doing the bare minimum with their games, because they know people are going to buy them anyway.

Would really appreciate another classic top-down pokemon honestly.

the game has these issues
1- bugs everywhere (likely even bugs that delete your save file)
2- missing pokemon (this will become common in the franchise)
3- poorly rendered terrain and background

My feeling with Scarlet and Violet is that they tried to do too much... They were experimenting with S/V and it didn't fully pay off... The Switch can handle open world games fine - but games like breath of the wild aren't filled with hundreds of wild animals running around at all times - and it hides its technical limitations well...

Legends Arceus kept its open areas seperate and hidden behind load screens - which to me was a far better way to do things on the Switch's hardware.

I feel like S/V would have been better to wait for the next gen.

I played at launch and the only time I noticed bugs was when fighting on a slope occassionally you'd have your pokemon floating in the air rather than standing on the ground... that and the pop in of textures and the frame rate dips - Apparently moving the game to the system memory - rather than playing off an SD card helps improve things.

Arceus was such a breath of fresh air.
I wish they stopped doing new gens, and just made reboots like that one.

I have been having fun with it, and I think they have absolutely been improving things that people have been begging for. The animations, the beautiful non-linear lands to explore with many hidden areas, the textures and models, the battling. I felt it was challenging too it was nice.

I LOVE QUAQUAVEL and inteleon

I grew out of pokemon a long time ago, but contrary to all reason I find myself eager wanting to play this one. The problem is that, if it turns out to be a mistake, it will be a really pricey one.

It's best for gamefreak to keep the mainline-remakes mechanics separate from legends mechanics. so we can keep getting two different games.

I don't get how the game can run soo bad and look so bad and be soo low resolution and no AA? when there's much better looking open world games like zelda. I honestly don't think game freak have the talent in their dev team to make a good 3d looking game.

This game if it ran at 60fps would be my favorite.

I mean I still play Pokemon Crystal lol so

Legends Arceus was a great evolution of the franchise. Scarlet/Violet just always looked disappointing, so I ignored it.

I need a Gen II remake that plays like Legends Arceus.

I wish all Pokémon games were top down. Like the first few gens. They had so much charm. This looks like crap IMO.

I’ve returned to Pokémon after a good 10 year hiatus and I must say, I found this game really relaxing and fun.

Cons:

- I found the lack of clear gameplay annoying sometimes; I’d show up in an area with Pokémon that were way too strong or weak.

- The Star Crew parts were tedious to tap through, I had no investment in their narrative and found the whole thing a shoddy replacement for what used to be the diabolical Team Rocket.

Otherwise, a 7/10.

It's worth remembering that Scarlet and Violet and Legends Arceus were developed at the same time. Arceus came out of the company's experimentation with implementing an open world into S/V.

Arceus released first - primarily because its a much smaller game and so development finished faster - but also because it tied into the remakes of Diamond and Pearl, that had released previously, and wasn't introducing any Gen 9 creatures. The game has about half of the pokemon species that appear in the base game of S/V - so it has a much greater focus on the real time battling systems.

S/V were too far along in development to really capitalise on the successes of L:A... but I would bet that gen 10 development is looking VERY closely at bringing across what worked in L:A into an open world like S/V.
