Ooo I’m so glad you got this banger. I was 20 when it came out and it was big in DC clubs. The long version is absolute 🔥. The reference to a centipede is not to be taken literally, it’s a metaphor for a sexy man. Next you gotta do LaToya Jackson “Hot Potato 🥔 “. Your new studio setup is nice!!

That was the cue ball she picked up from the pool table lol. And the red spot that looks like a dot on her forehead is just the flashing red light from the dance lights that was minimized because of how she was positioned 😂😂😂❤️

The song was written and produced by MJ for his big sis. He’s also singing in the background.

The big gospel voices belong to Martha Wash & Izora Rhodes, otherwise known as Two tons O' Fun, The Weather Girls, and Sylvester's backing vocalists from the late 70s to the mid 80's.

A fantastic buggin' reaction 🐛! The centipede is used as symbolism for love and the snake as a symbolism for lovelessness in this song read 👀 below. Centipede was released as the lead single from Rebbie Jackson's 1984 debut album: Centipede. It was written and produced by Michael Jackson. It sampled: TIBET1 by Fairlight CMI (1983). Michael Jackson and The Weather Girls (Martha Wash, Izora Armstead) provided background vocals. The song reached #4 on the R&B chart, #15 on the Cash Box 100, #24 on the Hot 100 and #29 on the Dance Club chart. The music video was directed by Peter Israelson. The single sold 500, 000 copies and was certified Gold.

The song is about the intense power of love and desire. It is about the feeling when someone breaches our walls and boundaries and penetrates our hearts. It's a feeling likened to a centipede, a creature that may be small, but is strong and resilient, capable of tremendous heat and desire. Love is portrayed as strong and capable of overwhelming the singer, in much the same way a centipede is capable of overpowering a larger opponent. The song also talks about the lonely and longing feeling of being without love, as depicted with the imagery of a snake crawling in the night. In the end, the song emphasizes that it is the power of love that gives us the ability to keep going, even when we find ourselves in darkness and pain.

It has been sampled by some rappers including 📻: Brand Nubian ft Busta Rhymes- Let's Dance (1998), Kurupt- Who Do U Be Shelene (1998) and City Girls- Show Me The Money (2023).

Song Credits 📝:

Lead vocals: Rebbie Jackson
Background vocals: Michael Jackson, The Weather Girls (Izora Rhodes, Martha Wash)
Arranger: Michael Jackson
John Barnes: synthesizers and drum programming
David Williams: guitar
Jerry Hey: flugelhorn

Lyrics 🗒:

Centipede (Repeat 2x)

Your love
Is like a ragin' fire, oh
You're a snake that's on the loose
The strike is your desire

But when the centipede is hot
You're bound to feel the fire, huh
And when the centipede is hot
You're bound to feel the fire

I feel, oh, yeah
A longin' for your touch
Like you crawled into the bathroom window
To give him all your love, ho

Like a centipede that's hot
The fire is in your touch
Just like a centipede you've got
A lot of lovin' to touch

Don't you know in the quiet of the night
Is when the snake is in the crawlin'
And the moon starts to glow then disappear
When the time is really right
Is when the centipede is crawlin'
You'll be crying in the night so many tears
And you're crawlin' like a centipede

Centipede

You came, oh
To strike him with your touch
Like you crawled into the bathroom window
To bite him with your love

Like a centipede that's hot
The fire is in your touch
Just like a centipede you've got
A lot of lovin' to touch

Don't you know in the quiet of the night
Is when the snake is in the crawlin'
And the moon starts to glow then disappear
When the time is really right
Is when the centipede is crawlin'
You'll be crying in the night so many tears
And you're crawlin' like a centipede

Centipede

In the quiet of the night
Is when the snake is in the crawlin'
And the moon starts to glow then disappear
When the time is really right
Is when the centipede is crawlin'
You'll be crying in the night so many tears

In the quiet of the night
Is when the snake is in the crawlin'
And the moon starts to glow then disappear
When the time is really right
Is when the centipede is crawlin'
You'll be crying in the night so many tears
And you're crawlin' like a centipede

Centipede (Repeat 3x)

Rebbie Jackson Info 📰:

Maureen "Rebbie" Jackson-Brown was born on born May 29, 1950 in Gary, Indiana. She is a singer and songwriter. Rebbie Jackson is a contralto with a three-octave range. She is the eldest child of Joseph and Katherine Jackson. Rebbie Jackson had taken clarinet, piano, and dance lessons in her childhood, but had no interest in a music career, even though, according to Jermaine Jackson, she had won several singing contests dueting with Jackie Jackson.

She first performed on stage with her siblings during shows in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in 1974, before subsequently appearing in the television series: The Jacksons (1976-77).

After The Jackson's television show ended Rebbie Jackson worked as a cabaret singer and a session singer for some artists including: The Emotions, Sonny Bono and Betty Wright before her second pregnancy halted her musical career for a short time.

Rebbie Jackson eventually released her debut album: Centipede, in 1984, at the age of 34. The album featured songs written by Smokey Robinson, Prince, Tito Jackson, and Michael Jackson, whose contribution: "Centipede" (#4 R&B/#24 Pop/#29 Dance Club), became Rebbie's Jackson's most successful single released during her music career. Her second single released from the album: "A Fork In The Road", reached #40 on the R&B chart.

By the end of the 1980s, she had released two more albums in quick succession: Reaction (1986), which produced the singles: "Reaction", reached #16 on the R&B chart and "You Send The Rain Away", which reached #50 on the R&B chart.

Her 1988 album: R U Tuff Enough, produced the single: "Plaything", reached #9 on the R&B chart, plus the single: "R U Tuff Enuff", which featured rapper Melle Mel, and reached #78 on the R&B chart. It was one of the first singles in the music industry to feature a R&B singer with a rapper on a song.

In 1989, Rebbie Jackson participated on The Jackson's single: "2300 Jackson Street", which reached #9 on the R&B chart and also has a music video filmed.

Following a 6 year hiatus in her musical career, Rebbie Jackson returned with a cover of the song: "Forever Young", for the 1995 film: "Free Willy 2: The Adventure Home", movie soundtrack.

She was later signed to her brother Michael Jackson's record label MJJ Music and released her first album in 10 years called: Yours Faithfully, was released on March 31, 1998. The album's titled track was released as a single accompanied with a music video. The song reached #40 on the R&B chart. The single: "You Take Me Places", was also released from the album but it didn't chart. The album also includes the song: "I Don't Want To Lose You", a duet with the R&B group Men Of Vizion. Another song on the album: "Fly Away", was originally recorded by her brother Michael Jackson for his seventh studio album Bad (1987).

In 2011, Rebbie Jackson embarked on the concert series: Pick Up The Phone Tour, which was dedicated to teens from all over the US who have committed suicide.

In 2011, it was rumored that she was working the studio recording news songs for an album but the album never came to fruition. She also performed throughout the US with a setlist containing her best-known songs, some of her brothers' songs as a group and solo, and some Motown classics.

In 2015, she performed at the DIVAS Simply Singing! benefit concert for HIV/AIDs and Health Awareness.

She has reportedly retired from performing live on stage.

Miscellaneous Notes 🗃:

Rebbie Jackson was married at 18 years of age to her childhood sweetheart Nathaniel Brown. She thought a happy home was more comforting and secure than the instability of show business. She also wanted to leave her family's drama-filled home on Jackson Street and escape her controlling father Joe Jackson. Arguments ensued for several weeks before her father relented and allowed Rebbie Jackson to marry Nathaniel Brown, but he refused to walk her down the aisle.

Rebbie Jackson and Nathaniel Brown had three children: Stacee Brown (born May 5, 1971), Yashi Brown (born October 5, 1977) and Austin Brown (born November 22, 1985).
Nathaniel Brown 👼🏾 passed away from cancer on January 6, 2013.

Great reaction. Sadly, this is Rebbie's only hit song. There's another song by her that I really like though called "Fly Away." I think you'd be pleasantly surprised by it but there's no music video. Last thing, your audio is pretty low compared to other videos you've done over the past year. The loudest thing on the video was your outro music. Thought you might want to know about that.
