I’m a belgian who’s 57 now, when I was 18, I went to Egypt and the first thing I remember in Cairo was those synagogues, mosqué and churches, build next to the other, « cheek to cheek » and the guys talking together as old friends…this was totally another reality than what was told at that time. As a Tunisian i can confirm what the rabbi said, even if we are a muslim country, we still protect the oldest synagogue in Tunisia, and possibly all of Africa, El Ghriba synagogue who goes back to the high priests' escape following the destruction of the of Solomon's Temple in the year 586 BCE.
As Tunisians, we never thought about our jewish fellow citizen as nothing less then our equals the same goes with our christian brothers, we even had some jewish state secretarys. For centurys we was helping each others, we as muslims was helping them on saturday with the shabbat (we took care of their businesses for them on that day for exemple), and they was keeping an eyes on our businesses on friday (when we went to the Mosque for the jummah prayer), the patron saint of Tunis (the capital city) Sidi Mahrez was highly respected for allowing the jewish to take cover inside the medina (the old fortified arab town) of Tunis during the war between Sunnis and Shi'ites in Tunisia 945 CE.
The only incidents betwen our communities started after the creation on the "infamous state" and even then it was "just" some isolated actions resolting in minor dommage on properties. After Operation Wooden Leg in 1985 where the "infamous state" bombed and killed more then 80 tunisians and palesinians for hosting the PLO, there was some burned shops and dommaged properties but the most sad was the lost of trust between us, even if there is still a TUNISIAN jewish communities in Tunisia today, they started to be afraid of the muslims since then, and the muslims lost trust in their jewish borthers even if they're the first to speak against that "infamous state" :/

When I was living in NYC, I worked for some Orthodox Jews. This lady made me a whole room for me to make salah, complete with a Qur'an and she would even remind me for salah. I worked for Muslims before and it was nothing like this, I dont even wanna talk about it because I'd maybe be backbiting 😂. Point is, Orthodox Jews have always treated me well and even better than some Muslims have😅 they are NOT the same as Zionists at all.
