'Life is what happens to us while we are making other plans' " ( Allen Saunders). I went to art school to get a job in advertising. After a few years, I hated my job. It doesn't matter how well you plan your life. One can study day and night, work one ass off, stay laser focused on your goals, and, in the end, still be misable. After going through 12 different jobs. I ended up "randomly " getting a job working for the city . Good benefits and decent salary. I love it 😀

I have a cousin who never went to college and he's been very successful on the job/financially. I have a niece who is a Princeton U grad and last I heard she's unemployed. Young people are getting bad advice from people who have good intentions but are not well-informed.

But what about when you have interest in more than one thing !
As someone currently in a med school and finding an inclination towards medical research, I wish to devote my time in research rather than clinical work !
Also, I like writing novels and poetry and sometimes see myself as a writer in future !

I love Robert but the whole career path thing is overrated. You control very little in your “career path”. Other people’s opinion of you can put an end to your whole plan because you just got fired and need to look for another job. And this can happen any time, when someone just as much as doesn’t like you or feel threatened by. And…there is absolutely nothing in the end of this path, may be a retirement if you’re lucky. Look at entrepreneurship instead!
