As a WRX owner myself I can say for sure Golfs (especially in DSG) are far superior in straight line speed. But for overall feel and handling I prefer the WRX. Golfs are amazing cars! Just wish they could give the same handling thrill as the STi!

No surprise at all. The MK7 Golf r's are beasts on the street. Running 11's with just a tune and down pipe is pretty damn insane

I've had both a mk7 gti and a 2019 wrx. The gti felt significantly faster, and felt more powerful despite being rated with lower hp. The wrx handled corners much better. With the gti, it proved to be completely unreliable. The piston rings evaporated along with all the oil in the engine. It ended up with a horrible knock. I was sad to see the gti go, but I wasn't going to waste any more money on it.

I drive a regular 20 WRX. That was a great video as much as I wanted to see the Subie win lol. It is what it is though, the Golf R is an amazing vehicle. Looking forward to see what they do with the next gen STI.

This is the only thing I dislike about the stock STi (slow asf) 😩, but the driving capabilities on the mountain road and on snow is my favorite. 😎

the dsg is absolutely wicked!!! but something about the sound handling and personality that the subarus have just always drawn me to them anyway, even if stuff like the golf r is faster…

I own a WRX guys, don’t take this race personally - it is what it is, and what it always has been - in this modern age of cars our subies aren’t all that quick. A TRD Camry would give us a run for our money. Hell I don’t even line up with 2.0T Accords because I’ve seen enough videos of that monster keeping up with much faster cars. The WRX wouldn’t stand a chance

I have a 2019 GTI that was almost identical in straight line speed to my friends 2015 WRX. Once I got my APR Plus Tune on the GTI, it was now faster than the same year STI. My 2004 STI that is stage 2, is faster than the GTI though. Love both cars for different reasons.

After owning a 2014 wrx hatch and extensively driving my buddys 2017 gti (hatch obviously) (both manual) I can indefinitely say I LOVE BOTH lol

The STi didn’t stand a chance but….they did better then most do trying to launch and roll the gears in a STi.

The Golf 7 and 8 R have incredibly top end acceleration for AWD cars, all others AWD hatches(bar the amg45) are inhibited bei gearing to be fast over 120mph.
