“He’s gross”
“We’ll that’s just uncalled for.”

The Exact Opposite of Garnet from steven universe. A hybrid Split from hate vs a Fusion made from Love.

y'all talk about how the general is pure evil but they are both the same person deep down. the splitting didn't fix them, it just made them stagnate and brought out the worst in them.

I really love the idea of them being the same person, but one gets everything and the other gets nothing.

0:49 This shot scared me, it's no longer just sadness but an empty yet deep hatred for his other half. His eyes are just so deep and dead looking it hurts

Lol. The exchange between the Nowhere King and The General made me chuckle. The way the general just casually insults the nowhere king and the poor guy is just like "Hey man. That's not true." It just made me smile because it was like a hint of Elk was somewhere still in there at that time.

The worst part is that the general genuinely thought he was doing what was right and he really loved her, but he ended up becoming egotistical…

Elk thought that his "beastly" side was just going to be a mindless, feral animal.
Instead it was just himself, like it always had been.

No wonder the General hates him so much; because it's himself.

That one moment when you feel far more sympathy towards a goo with elk skull than a man. Love that show!

2:57 I thought this was fucking hilarious. Just the Nowhere king saying what and the General calling him gross.

I think the General did love the Princess/Mysterious Woman as much as was possible for him too. The General and Elk are both the same person in two different bodies. They share their minds, heart and soul. The creator said they shared their memories because their minds were still connected the entire time.
Elktaur dreamed of being human before he even met the Princess. He just used his 'love' for her to justify splitting himself. It reminds me of Ariel from the Little Mermaid. We didn't even question how messed up it was trying to get Eric to fall in love with her without telling him she was a mermaid. I think we forgave that more because she wanted to and didn't know how to without her voice. Not sure why she didn't write it down, but whatever I guess. Both Ariel and Elktaur were obsessed with humans and decided to change their bodies to be with a human they barely knew without being honest with that human.

As the General, Elktaur got everything he ever dreamed of, while the Elk was stuck in his worst nightmare. The General half still did care for the Princess, but revealed just how selfish Elktaur had always been. The General didn't want to give up everything he'd dreamed of and achieved as a human. To the General, the Elk represented everything Elktaur had once hated about himself.
The Elk half became more and more obsessed with the Princess out of jealousy and realizing how he possibly could have had her if he'd never split himself to begin with. Only after Elk had suffered, had even wanted to be honest with her for his own benefit. It still wasn't about what was best for the Princess/Mysterious Woman!
I feel like many fans give Elk/Nowhere King way to big of pass just because he suffered. Elk did suffer, but he made two whole worlds suffer as punishment for that suffering. Many in those worlds had nothing to do with his suffering, but he didn't care anymore. He just wanted everyone to suffer as long as he was alive, not getting what he wanted. Elk could have gone to Centaurworld and tried to find a herd, but instead he kidnapped soldiers, animals and Centaurs to make into his mind controlled Minotaurs!
I do wish they had separated the Minotaurs back into their original forms, because fusing beings together is such a creepy form of body horror!
The Nowhere King is one of my favorite villains EVER, but I still say he is a villain that deserved his fate. I'm so glad they didn't try to redeem him!

I love that scene where the general is like “Yeah I-I guess but look at he’s gross” then the nowhere king is like “No >:<“

I just realized the symbolism here.

By splitting himself, the elktaur believed he was removing his worst trait, his animal half. But more often than not, what we think is wrong with us isn't really "what's wrong with us". The general was egotistic, selfish, and narcissistic. The elk was actually loveable, kind, and funny. But of course, since the general represents the worst part of Elktaur (at least NOT through his perspective), he basically externalized his self hatred and tortured his animal half, while the half eventually became the nowhere king. But in the end, both beast ans man represent the worst parts of Elktaur. Elk represented his self hatred, which the general was free of, and the general represented his narcissism. Which the elk lacked. But of course, they waged a war against each other, just as elktaur was at a war with himself. The process that seperated Elktaur evenually grew into two evils lacking the balance that elktaur had. Without this balance, both sides grew their own issues and became monsters. For the elk, literally, and for the general, figureatively. That's why the Elktaur shouldve never seperated. He was the only thing keeping balance, but it wasnt enough to keep himself from making that decision. And when he did, the two halves rivaled againdt each other, trapped in an endless war until someone kills one of them. The general finally externalized what he hated the most in himself. That's why he tortured he elk, it was himself, whom he hated the most. As for the elk, his hatred grew to the skies and he became the nowhere king.

Edit: Another thing to note, a major character flaw in Elktaur was his inability to accept himself. The general needs the elk and the elk needs the general, Elktaur needs his shadow in order to survive, he can't live without it, but he shouldn't let it control him. Because he split himself, the general is what happens when you run away from the shadow, and the nowhere king is what happens when you let the shadow take over you

Can we appreciate the voice actor here? Brian Stokes Mitchell was an absolute god here! This man was the voice for basically 4 characters in this show (the elk, the elktaur, the nowhere king, and the general)! Each had their own distinguished voices, both speaking AND singing, and you could easily tell each apart! I'm geeking so hard right now over this man!!!

Fun Fact: He also voiced Jethro in the masterpeice of an animated film, The Prince of Edgypt.

0:51 god, this part. this is what i clicked for, heh. the facial expression is not crazy exaggerated or anything, in fact it looks kinda neutral, except for those big, circle shaped eyes. but it portrays this dark, despairing emotion SO WELL!! like yeah, that unrequited crush two years ago was nothing!! this is true agony!! the close up doesn’t even do it justice. the scene looks so much sadder, unnerving, and so much more pathetic from this view. the happy singing couples in the foreground and him just watching helplessly with those haunted, creepy eyes. so good!
