The children were being killed by men, so they created the white walkers. The white walkers were vulnerable to dragonglass, which the children used in their weapons, while the first men were using bronze I think. So the children thought that the white walkers could kill the men, and then after men were gone the children of the forest using dragonglass would kill the white walkers. I am not sure the children knew that the white walkers would be able to raise wights from the dead. And subsequently the white walkers began to wear armor to protect themselves from the children's weapons. In the end the children and the first men had to join together to take on this common enemy.

The whole children of the forest and three eyed raven should've have been explored more and fleshed out in season 8. The best time to do this was when Tyrion asked about Bran's journey. Season 8 should've been this with the season finale being the long night.

As the Three-Eyed Raven, Bran has the ability of greensight, which means he can see events in the past, present, and future through visions. Killing Bran would essentially erase all memory of mankind. Samwell Tarly explains it pretty well in the scene.

I will always find it amusing that the start was the finish. Bran saw Jaime and Cersei, and out of their fear, they created someone who could see all and who beat everyone to the Iron Throne.

When the Children of the Forest were creating the White Walkers, they did not fathom what the result would be. They tapped into a magic so powerful that the outcome of their experiment became even beyond their control.

I forgot that Bran used to have emotions... until the show turned him into Steven Hawking. His transformation into a vegetable that could still be condescending towards everyone was irritating. He just turned into a weirdo for no apparent reason. Becoming the three eyed raven doesn't mean he had to turn into a monotone prick.

EDIT : FFS...Of the 1K 👍 4 of you clown shoes took what I said, twisted it up with your childhoods, and then it came back out in some warped version of a very simple point. I’m getting really annoyed with the fact that in every single synopsis of this era in Game of Thrones, they say that the children of the forest and the first men made a pact and then years later the white walkers appeared from the far north.


If that’s true, then the children of the forest broke their packed and attacked the first men after making peace with them by creating the others.
