As tired as I am from working, I am so grateful that I have a wonderful career as a nurse and can be apart of an amazing medical team!

These are so wonderful, Siobhan. It's funny - during some of the most stressful moments at the hospital, there are millions of reasons to be grateful for, literally right in front of us ... but it can be so hard to recognize in the moment. Making the effort to keep this in mind is so important. Love this. Going to try out a few positive rants this week ❤️

Yay!!! I’m just about to start my summer semester doing some classes for nursing school, and I’ve been in a terrible mood because some girl I work with stole 160 dollars from me and I’ve been feeling really down because to a broke college student that’s obviously a lot of money. You always have good advice and you always cheer me up!

I LOVE this!! A positive rant is such a cool thing. Why don’t we do this more?? I keep my bullet journal next to my bed and one thing I always do is write down one thing I’m grateful for that day. It has definitely changed my outlook and made me more positive since starting this! Also I keep encouraging notes from patients or coworkers in my mailbox at work, and go read them if I’m needing a pick me up. Thanks for these tips!

A huge thing for me is getting outside and getting some fresh air, even if that's just for a minute or two. Something about being outside and taking a few deep breaths (and ideally looking at some beautiful scenery!) really elevates my mood.

I love your positivity Siobhan! It is so important when there is so much stress around you. I am a disabled politician in the UK myself and positivity is key not to get stressed about anything. I find it very important to laugh as much as I can whenever appropriate, which relieves endorphins in your body so you feel positive. I can see that you like to do that as well in your videos.

You should really try to do a collab with Doctor Mike. Maybe like a Doctor vs Doctor trivia thing or something.

I find if helpful to think about people who have it worse than me. It gives perspective. In your case, the patients who are really sick and scared to be admitted to the hospital are probably having a worse day than you are. Gives you something to be grateful about. In my case, dealing with serious chronic illness, I know there are people who are more sick than I am (and I used to be worse), so I am grateful for being able to walk to the bathroom on my own, or being able to watch TV and even watch youtube. I have been very ill for two years now, my “staying positive-muscles” are probably my strongest muscles by now 😁

I am so humble and grateful I got the most awesome news while on the operating table Tues.I was having a procedure done on my access line for dialysis. It had been almost a week since I dialised. When the doctor was done he went and called my dialisis unit to get me in there asap. He then comes back and says I got some real good news 4 u that 24 hour urine u did came back and u no longer have to do dialisis at this time.Ur creatine level is 2.42.My kidneys failed last year at this time they were at 5%.he also told me that it is extremely rare to have recovered.Staying positive even wen they told me I would probably be on dialisis the rest of my life got me to this point. Thanks 4 ur videos they helped me understand wat u guys go through.

I haven't kept up with your daily posts of what you're grateful for, so I'll just put what I'm grateful for here!
I'm grateful for the amazing support group that I have in my life. So many people around me have kept me grounded and brought me out of very, very low lows.
I definitely struggle with staying positive, and I think it's a self-discipline issue, but I'm grateful for people like you, Siobhan. People like you, whether it be on YouTube or in my every day life, demonstrate what it means to stay positive and have healthy coping skills.
So thank you, Siobhan.

This is great :). I work on the phones all day in customer complaints (taking on average 70 calls) so you can imagine how draining this is. Add to the fact that I'm an introvert, so by the weekend I don't want to speak to anyone, even family, haha! The thing I constantly remind myself is that they are angry at the SITUATION, not YOU. And it goes a long way when people on the phone actually acknowledge this. It feels like such a win if I can turn around the feelings and take action, and it also helps to have amazing management who you can bounce off, vent etc. It's great to get to team meetings each week and say 'this really sucks....' and your manager says 'Yeah...ok, let's work on it & try to change it for future'.

Love this video!! ❤️ Doctors to me are the most amazing people in the world... it truly makes me emotional. I broke my leg in January and had to have my first surgery and just 2 days ago I had a second operation to remove 2 big screws that were restricting movement.. the way doctors/surgeons/nurses all work together to be the best dynamic ever they can be for their patients just makes my heart sing. So so so grateful for those in this profession. Glad to be able to watch your journey!!!!

Thank you so much for this video. I needed this. I am a new grad nurse and just finished my orientation shifts. I was left feeling like I needed these kinds to strategies to protect myself from the negative and to prevent the burnout that I have observed in others. I have been concerned that losing basic compassion is an inevitability, which has left me feeling discouraged. I care about the work that I do and I want to continue to be able to feel and display care and compassion throughout my career.

I am in so much pain right that I can't even lay down. I'm exhausted, and just keep thinking that a full bottle of cardizem is a quick way out. So I NEEDED this video right now. I totally forgot to think about how awesome this day was. I just kept thinking that I'm tired of hurting and I'm tired of being sick and I'm fing tired of being tired!

BUT this was the first time I'd gotten out of the house since Christmas, and even through the pain I DID have fun! AND I got to have this amazing moment with a new friend tonight. I could hear her wheezing from about 3-4 feet away so I offered to go grab her inhaler, and she replied that she was boss of her body, it was not the boss of her. So I replied, well, if you're the boss of body, then that makes it YOUR responsibility. Why aren't you taking care of it?

I could actually SEE the thoughts and emotions on her face and she said she'd never thought of it like that. She used her inhaler and was fine. It doesn't seem like much, but this is a woman who notoriously refuses to take care of herself. She's almost died from simple infections several times. It was a HUGE deal for her. And I made it happen. THAT is what I need to think about. NOT the pain.

So thank you! Thank you for helping me make it through another rough night, and re-frame my thoughts tonight! :)
