The fact that you design your sounds with the producer in mind and not just for the sake of "it sounds cool" is such a massive win.

Removing that fundamental is so obvious that I've never thought of it before 🤯

I never realized we could squish the "wide" bass into mono, it leaves much room in the sides and will remove my mid issues I've had for years thank you so much for this

Its a game changer for managing sub bass. No extra instances of Serum, no DAW busing, no extra EQ's or side splitting, just 1 serum and some really great patches

That's what we were waiting for, a Big Z Video about Serum 2!

Having the ability to remove the sub fundamental from any oscillator is a game changer - no more crappy sounding HPFs

Wow, you know I'd never thought about removing the fundamental as a means of filtering. I think it gives it a cleaner sound due to the lack of phase shifting around the filter cutoff. Nice technique! Will definitely be using it! Been doing production, mixing and mastering for about 25+ years, and you always teach me new stuff. Greatly appreciated!

My favorite explanation so far of what makes Serum 2 more advanced than Serum 1. After watching your video, I feel like Serum was training us for 10 years so we would be prepared for Serum 2. It's gonna be even more difficult now for many new sound designers and producers to get their heads around the latest Serum.

Been waiting for your serum 2 review / perspective

Great video! Completely agree with most presets being super over designed, it’s super common especially with factory patches and something I’m always battling to avoid!

Thank you so much for this! I can't wait for your Serum 2 packs. Big Z is the one stop shop for the best serum preset packs.

Duda and Co. hit a home run. Great breakdown video as always, Big Z!

Solid vid! Great remake! 🙌🏽

The extra unison in the first sound reminds me that Steve Duda released a guide for sound designers on how to save CPU. He recommends not using more than 7 unison when making supersaws. Instead, limit it to 7 and add a chorus in the FX section.

I know that’s less relevant when playing a single note like a bass, but it’s definitely helpful if someone is making detuned saw chords.

Figured I’d share since you’re probably making sounds for possible new packs. 👍🏽

It’s crazy to hear you say that you “don’t like sound design for the sake of sound design” because I had this exact same thought recently. Lots of people in the sound design/serum community are arrogant and think they’re geniuses or something. But it’s all about the music. Anytime I make a synth patch, it always needs to be thought about in the context of music production.

Cool Sound & Cool Song! Can't wait for the Presets Package for Serum 2!

Great tips, only thing i'd do differently is either keep the sine clean or distort it a little with a lowpass. Compression on one single frequency usually just weakens it.

This is a masterclass man, amazing video. I'd love to hear you recreate some other sounds. Maybe a tutorial series on how to make iconic sounds, like an iconic pluck in a song, an iconic super saw you know that sort of thing. I learned a LOT about Reese style bases just from this, like using soft clip distortion to get those warm overtones that are loud on a filtered sound (I find the tube distortion gets lost unless it's last in the chain, and it doesn't give the same character)

Plus, as many others have said, that stereo into mono phase tip is HUGE.

Been a fan of you for a few years now Big Z!

I appreciate all your effort in making these vids, although, I admittedly use Serum preset packs like _yours_ to create my compositions (saves a lot of time and headache 😅, lol). Also, you are _crushing_ "Sound Design For Dummies" for *visual learners* like myself 🔥🔥🔥

Now, on a different note (pun not intended), I want to congratulate you on how much you've changed physically! You look more fit bro! You give me inspo as I am currently on a health journey myself. Kudos to you man and keep up the good work ❤🤘🏼

All love

Routing also the “split” fx just made parallel processing easier as u can do inside serum now but another question, what we do with all these fancy plugins bought for parallel processing inside Ableton like how they were used back in the days xD
