Scythe: Expeditions - can the sequel match the original?

Expeditions is the sequel to Scythe, one of my favourite games! This is an exploration and action selection game that plays faster than the original. But can the sequel possibly be as good as one of my favourites?

Of course I refer to the game as Scythe: Expeditions, but it’s just “Expeditions” - I got carried away in my excitement about a sequel to Scythe!

I got my copy yesterday and I had a chance to play it Solo. It was a great first impression and the Automa was easy to learn and manage. I also love Scythe. This seems to be an excellent game in that universe. It definitely should be easier to teach. So I imagine it will be a great option to introduce players to Scythe.

In my single play, I did find that the game seems to have many moments where I can math out my turns and really having some satisfying combos happen.

I love the first Scythe but this is a whole different game. The comparisons are rather pointless outside of the art. I’m sad to say played three 2 player rounds and I really don’t like it because the balancing is super off and it will scale terribly to 4 or 5 player parties.
