You may think the reason toothpaste makes things like orange juice taste so awful is simply due to the common mint flavor of toothpaste clashing with other flavors, but this isn’t actually what’s going on here. The real culprit is thought to be two compounds almost universally added to toothpastes -sodium lauryl sulfate and sodium lauryl ether sulfate, which are anionic surfactants, meaning they lower the surface tension of water.

Well why would you brush your teeth BEFORE you eat? Doesn't that defeat the point of brushing your teeth in the first place?

0:46 is also the same exact reason why Shampoo is all *foamy*, foam does nothing but make you feel like it is doing more than it is. The foam does nothing... If you rub the shampoo into your hair well enough without foam in it, the shampoo will do just as well as without foam.

The same marketing trickery is used when saying 'This Burger is *Angus Beef*' - Angus cows are the most common breed of beef for eating in the world! So, even if the competitor burger or steaks or sausages does NOT say it has Angus beef - it probably is Angus as that is the main breed of beef we eat!!!

Yet another common one is where they say *This chicken breast is 'hormone free'* - ummmm, it has been illegal since the 1970s to inject hormones into chickens either before they are slaughtered or afterwards so yeah. Even if the competitor chicken breast says NOTHING about being 'hormone free' - - - it IS still hormone free as adding hormones was banned decades ago!

Another type of this BS marketing is *gluten free* - I find so many products that state 'gluten free' on them which are obviously going to have no gluten in them as they contain no wheat in the Wheat is the only thing that contains Gluten. So, you could effectively advertise your bottled water as 'gluten free' and you are not lying! But it is no better than any other bottled water. Besides, gluten free foods are worse for you (if you have no allergy to gluten) - it has nearly no vitamins or minerals plus drastically increases the way your body absorbs fat (you will gain weight faster than if you ate fat and also you can become severely constipated.

It also is the same thing as *retina displays* being falsely marketed as the being 'the peak of all screens'. When in fact they just simply outdated LCD screens that are only *720pHD*. RetinaHD just means 1080pHD. When most smartphones are at 2K and 4K which is (far above RetinaHD/1080p), it kind of shows how pathetic trying to trick people into buying into a product truly is. Makes you think, huh?

All these examples just goes to prove that we need to learn to smell BullShit when we see, hear and read it. Everything in this comment is real and true! Go and research it for yourselves and then reply. :)

Before the recent discovery of the fact that all tastes can be tasted everywhere on the tongue (and not in special sweet/bitter and so on zones) I thought this was because the toothpaste didn't reach to the bitter tasting zone in the back of the mouth and therefore not covering them, causing everything to taste bitter. I even saw that explanation on TV, but this ofc makes more sense. Thanks for this vid.

This reminds me of the miracle fruit (Synsepalum dulcificum) I ate when I was a kid. It has a similar effect, where it decreases your sour taste buds and makes a lemon taste sweet sweet. Maybe do a video on that plant as well?
