I Tried an Intel GPU to See if You Should Too

The GPU market has been pretty lame lately. Nvidia is focused on AI. No one knows what AMD is cooking. So I decided to try the Intel Arc a770 16 gb to see if you should too... let's see what happened.

More of an AMD person myself, but I always appreciate when Intel has something cooking. Hopefully the next GPU series from them revise on a couple of things!

Correction:
I might be a bit behind on things but this was true a few years ago:
The "Clean Install" option doesn't actually do a clean install, it applies default settings and maybe reverts some registry changes.
To actually get a clean install (and what pro reviewers do when swapping cards) you need to download DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller), run it, restart your PC, install new driver then restart again.

I know this from the Maxwell days when you could cook your own custom bios.

I'm a pretty proud A770 adopter. Yes, at the moment the 6700XT is the better card, but the progress Intel has made in such short time is breath-taking. And I think the A770 will age very, very well assuming Intel maintains their incredible support. It's got all the hardware for it.

For CS:GO 5:02 you can use the "net_graph 1" command to display fps and other stats. With "net_graphproportional font 0.5" you can lower the scale of it.

The issues are driver related. It's on paper a very good card. The cheapest modern 16gb card with a 256-bit bus. I'm buying it for the memory for video editing and AI rendering. But mostly to give Nvidia the middle finger.

I think Intel will do well in the consumer GPU market in the future. Kinda a pyrrhic victory tho when Nvidia and AMD is kicking their 🍑 in the data center/server market. But at least competition will be good for gamers. I still think prices will be hella expensive tho lol.

The main issues with the A770's Reference Design cooler can be fixed with models like the Acer Predator Bifrost Arc A770 OC or the Sparkle Titan Arc A770 OC.

I gave the ARC A770 16 the college try in March. I was more frustrated with current prices but still wanting some of the latest DX12/AV1 features. Thanks Brian for the generous share to Vex and us! I like my A770, random inconsistent crashes thing is real. Card fits my niche perfectly however, which is playing games at 4k with medium to high settings. it's almost like having a brand new 1080Ti with 16GB of ram. Got mine before the prices drops, if I were to buy now, I'd be getting a 6700xt.

An ARC refresh is supposedly coming in the 3rd Quarter, so we may get to see some new Intel offerings in the near future. I'm also interested in the ARC A60 workstation card, as it is a "current gen" single slot GPU, rumored to be very reasonably priced.

Once you understand how to avoid most of the issues and optimize all the games it's really satisfying, i own a A770 PG and I'm super excited to see what the future of Intel GPU's will be.

I used an A770 for a while, sometimes I loved it sometimes I hated it so I sold it and went back to AMD. I do think intel is onto something good though, I sincerely hope battlemage really hurts AMD and Nvidia
