I think the path is actually so long one can get a draw by 50 move rule before the 3 fold repetition - especially given that after the king goes to the end and back the knight will be on c2 instead of a1 making the position different from the starting one.

Very cool puzzle!
I almost got it right, but missed that black knight protects F8. If it didn't roock to F8 would've been checkmate, so king should've done repetition before that.

An incredible puzzle! I think it is also an example of the "50 moves" rule because it will trigger before the "three repeated positions" (considering that the King moves the entire path before switching direction).

14 beautiful things about this puzzle:
1. The square pattern of the kingwalk.
2. MVP white king for being in the middle during the kingwalk phase.
3. Second MVP is obviously deez knights.
4. Third MVP is the rook bros. One is even pinned.
5. 3:01 Ng4+ doesn't work because black king escapes the knight's checks.
6. 3:41 Nh6+ doesn't work because of the deadly diagonal pattern.
7. 4:20 Ke3 variation line either skips the kingwalk phase by one move (Nc2+ Kd3...) or makes the black king go backwards (Nc2+ Kf3...)
8. 4:34 Nh4+ attacks the king and defends the rook ONLY from the king, at the same time.
9. 5:00 Nf5+ doesn't work because of the deadly diagonal pattern again. Knight on a1 can't check the king.
10. 7:01 Nd3+ doesn't work because of the carefully-placed black bishop on f1.
11. The puzzle is 15 moves long if we follow the main line.
12. Every move in the puzzle is a check.
13. Every pawn and piece on the board has a purpose.
14. (Thanks to top comment) 50 move rule applies before threefold repetition because the knight will be on c2 instead of a1.

It's basically the chess version of that gag where one person chases another around a tree in circles over and over and over.

Beautiful puzzle that did make me smile but the pattern became obvious quickly enough.
One note is that the Black King would only be able to do the full route and back once. If they try to do it again your white knight on c2 limits his travels. This is an unavoidable perpetual check which could be a 50-move draw or, more likely, an agreed draw.

Question. When black king gets to f6. why not take rook to f8 for a check? king covers e5, knight covers e7 - I think its mate.

When you drew out at the the of the video what pieces controlled what squares it became so much more obvious why the king had to course the way it did. That was fun to watch!
