I loved this book. I had to read it in one sitting because it had me glued to the pages. I love how he describes his thoughts and is so honest with the reader about his uncertainties.

So true. Those words tricks were not only in the conversations but also in the correspondence. I guess you may see his English was actually improving little by little. That was what I sensed in Chinese. Lucky for me, the Chinese translated has done a great job. She even won a prize for her translation.

I was also surprised that Foer was so young when he wrote that book(his first book!!). I could definitely see his talent and his great future.

Thank you! I didn't think about identifying with young Tony, thanks for pointing that out. I found myself more in rethinking how I remember things and questioning them.

I love non linear structure so I'm very used to it and don't find it hard to follow. I think in this novel it was pretty easy to follow the story.
Everything is Illuminated in English is amazing especially because of the play with words he uses - something every non-native has experience with (choosing the wrong word forthe situation).Loved that - aside from the story!

LOVED this book. I must admit that I didn't understand the book's ending so I had to look up discussions on the internet. But your review was really good. It had so many great quotes, and the concept of history and the debates in university were so great! I think I might have enjoyed part one a little bit more than part two haha.

I am very interested in him, especially after he got the Booker Prize last year, not to mention there are few good writers name Julian. Is his nonlinear structure hard to follow?(I heard that he always in nonlinear structure, not sure about this one).
BTW, I love everything is illuminated! I read it in Chinese a few years ago. I plan to read it again in English. It should be more fun! I also look forward to the extremely loud.... Haven't had the chance to read it yet.

Yes, that is the best. It made him appear so real. I kept thinking 'Oh shit, I've done that, too'.

sounds like an interesting book, i will try to get my things on it :) I am also pretty sure that at least half of the things I remember never happened or did in quite a different way... I guess that is what we get for being subjective animals...:)

It may seem like a funny reason to read a book, but I kind of want to read something by Julian Barnes, because Barnes was my maiden name!

Exactly. It's hilarious the things he says is the beginning. I always have to laugh about 'the seeing eye bitch'!
