As someone that lives in Virginia I feel like 100, 000 is now 50, 000

There's the old saying _"the rich get richer and the poor get poorer", _ this is because wealthy people are able to own financial assets that overcome inflationary pressures. People who don't have enough money to buy financial assets are the same people that are hit the hardest by cost of living inflation. In terms of "real value" (inflation-adjusted) the adage is completely correct. Remember, average wage increases are 2-4 percent, but average dividend increases are 6-8 percent annually.

From Honolulu. Can confirm people making $70k-$80k are still considered “poor” or lower income.

My goal when I was in college was to make a 100k+ job but since then I won’t settle for less than 200k+ after at most 5 years of working. Its ridiculous.

My husband said, "when 100k isn't enough to live off of? Something is wrong with America, not us."

I was so excited when I finally started making 100k but between taxes and cost of living it’s not as much as it sounds

I make 135k a year. And it’s doable if you manage your money well. My take home is 6k after taxes and 401k contribution(20%).
2168 rent
190 car insurance
1000 food
200 utility/water/garbage
100 phone
200 electricity
200 gas
Total 4058$ a month of expenses. Had 2k left to save or spend so I decided to buy a 2024 tesla model y performance for 903$ a month at 7.33%. Living your life is a balance of saving and spending. Just make sure you don’t go over on one side and be happy. Never be afraid to spend your money because you can leave this earth ar any time.

It’s going to be very weird. We are approaching or already at the point where being a millionaire isn’t that big of a flex.

I rather live in Los Angeles (where I currently live) or Honolulu than in Texas.

But... cheap places are cheap for a reason. The most desirable places where everyone wants to live cost more. Supply and demand, along with the fact that is where successful people want to be. No way am I moving to Idaho or Texas to save a few bucks. There is more to life than that. Cheers!

How did you calculate the purchasing power?

As someone from madrid spain that kind of salary would get you a very nice apartment in the middle of the city and a nice car too, salaries here are so much lower due to extremely high taxes, the benefit is basically free healthcare and amazing public transportation, if only politicians didnt steal so much then we could have lower taxes with the same benefits lmao

I’m in the North Bay and 100k is considered low income. It costs at least 42k per year for a family to rent a home. Those of us who bought our homes a while back & have a low rate have it a little easier though. The food costs have ballooned to $1200 to $1500 a month easy. We cook more at home than before the pandemic to maintain our saving & investing.

I'm moving from Jacksonville Fl to New Jersey, and I don't know how people live here. The rents are to the roof.
