Thrulines is a nice tool. Double check it and compare with other sources because they use family trees on ancestry to construct the thrulines and they often contain errors.

The problem is that ThruLines are so inaccurate that I am reluctant to turn them on in my tree.

I noticed it a week before Christmas and started trying it. I personally like the way it reveals your matches.

Love this feature! I had been doing this manually from the DNA side, not from the tree side. This is just a visual confirmation, in my tree, that the work I had been doing on the DNA side was visible and discoverable on the tree side.
Other than that, I don't usually use ThruLines, but this is a confirmation that Ancestry is thinking ahead on how to give us the best value for our DNA money.

Another thing, I think that Ancestry wants you to use World subscription because some of your through-lines may go back to other countries & the records there. I think that the World subscription would cover this potential. But, of course, it’s always nice for Ancestry if they can get more money, also.

I haven't started to play with that feature yet, but thanks to your review of it, I already have network category ideas pouring into my brain (e.g., Paupers, F.A.N. mentioned in gf's CW pension records, Wayne Co., KY family who migrated to Jacksonville, IL, Ancestors in CW, etc. Connie I just want to thank you again for all that you do for the genealogy community. You are my all time favorite person to follow for tips, tricks, recommendations, and keeping us up-to-date with all the latest and greatest stuff out there. You are a genealogy gem!

I found this new featurre the other day and have added many cousins. I wasn't sure if I was using the right way and was about to leave you a messsage about it. Then I saw this video. This new feature is one of the best I've seen in a long while. Thanks for the video.

Problem is that Ancestry uses tree matches NOT actual DNA chromosome matches

I am so glad you are going over this. I had turned this on a couple weeks ago and didn't click in, as I was not sure what it would do. So I thought-Connie will cover this. And here we are. Thanks so much for this walk-through.

I hadn't discovered this feature yet. Thanks for highlighting it, Connie!

I manage both my parents tests as well as my own, and the three tests are all connected to my one tree, so a minor issue for me with this new feature would be having to keep going into the settings and changing which test (and thus Thrulines) it bases it on at any given time. I could just set it to use my own test all the time I guess, but it would be better to use my parents' tests, who'd on average have more Thrulines than me from any given ancestor, so I'd have to keep switching it back and forth between the two of them all the time, unless they can factor in a way of setting it to use both my parents' tests (and thus Thrulines) simultaneously, though I suspect that would be computationally and graphically hard for anyone whose parents share ancestors with each other in their tree.

I was also trying to figure out why I had previously turned off Thrulines icons in my tree, but turning them on again quickly revealed the pretty major issue there. Because I have my own DNA test and both my parents tests it means that whichever test it is set to use to generate the icons it will always show the icon on literally every single applicable ancestor, because there will always be at least one other test on each ancestor's Thrulines (mine if it is using the test of one of parents, and one of my parents if it is using my test) so it reduces the usefulness of that icon to just showing me that all the ancestors in my own tree are identical to my same ancestors in my same own tree but pulled indirectly through my parents' tests..

I had seen this a day or two ago and found how a cousin's tree was connected to me. Super cool. I like the feature, so far.

Good feature, but as Connie & others have said, be careful to do your own investigation on the suggestions. For example, we have a young lady that thinks she’s a direct descendent of the same great grandma. DNA centiMorgans fit with this relationship. However, she doesn’t know, but I do know, that she actually is the descendent of our direct line’s sister! Both sisters ended up marrying, and having children with, the same man. One sister died before the other. The other sister married this man and had children by him, afterwards. Everyone, be very careful in your research!

I’m so happy you covered this, I hadn’t found it yet and was hoping one day ancestry would do something like this.

I will have to check out this feature. On a side note, I started using your research notes and may have found an error in my tree. I need to do more research now

Very cool. I just checked mine.. I had the thrulines icon selected as blue (I don't remember doing that.. 😆) but I had never clicked on that sentence in a direct descendant that brings up the connections. FUN! ~Thank you Connie! .. 🤗💕

Might be interesting to see on those iffy lines. I have all those things turned on for some reason, never knew they were listed on my tree. Now I do thanks
