Ingredients

3 Tbsp olive oil
3 Tbsp flour (all-purpose, whole wheat, and gluten-free flour blends all work!)
1 Tbsp chili powder (I used McCormick brand)
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp dried oregano
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
2 Tbsp tomato paste
2 cups chicken broth
1 tsp apple cider vinegar

Instructions

Combine the flour and all of the spices in a bowl.
Pre-heat a large saucepan on medium heat, with the olive oil. Once it’s hot, add spice mixture and cook for 1-2 minutes.
Add tomato paste, and slowly add in chicken broth, whisking each time.
Bring to a simmer, and cook 5-7 minutes or until slightly thickened. (It will get thicker as it cools.)
Remove from heat, and mix in the apple cider vinegar.
Ready to use!

Omg! Thank you so much! I made it and it taste 100 times better than can ones! My husband wanted to have enchiladas but we’re out of this sauce and I was not able to drive and get from store 😔 and I found your recipe and it looks easy.. so I thought of trying and it only took me less than 10 minutes 🥰 my husband loved it and he said we’re not buying anymore enchiladas sauce!!! YOU are going to make it because it’s amazing!! I think this is kind of good but not!! Now I have to make this every time!! Best thing is it doesn’t take too long so thank you for that 🥰🥰

I used your recipe because I was making butternut squash enchiladas and we are iced in without canned enchilada sauce.
I was surprised to learn that I can make it myself. The surprising thing is my picky six year-old raved and raved about how good they were. He said he would give me 32 thumbs up. My husband said he was “laying it on pretty thick”. But I’m happy he was so enthusiastic! 🤩

I made this recipe. Used 2 T chili powder and more broth as my sauce was a little thicker. It was great in the enchilada casserole that I made. So much better than canned.
