So the fact that it's such a high proof makes sense, in my opinion. An old fashioned typically only consists of bitters, whiskey, a method to sweeten it (often times simple syrup) and maybe some type of orange but never juice. Bitters are literally made with alcohol, and a good old fashioned never has too much sweetener, so it makes sense that the proof would barely be lower than the whiskey its made with. There may be some pre dilution there, but regardless after dilution of water from stirring, a classic OF is damn near drinking whiskey neat (in the way of proof). Hope this clears it up!

I know you don’t like scotch but Glenlivet makes Premade Old Fashions and Manhattans. It’s also pretty cool when you crack open the bottle the mixer shoots into the bottle from the cap.

Try "On The Rocks" pre-made Old Fashion. It's made with Knob Creek. Don't know if it's better, but it's not bad

I drink neat almost every glass I have. When I made OF the best was a cask strength Makers Mark at 55%. Pretty good OF not a great smooth pour.
