At my college the rule is to follow the crowd. If the bus is loud you can be loud if it's quiet it's dead silent and you shouldn't even make noise

Lmao in central america you can be taking the bus and the person sitting besides you is literally going to be playing music out loud without headphones for no reason

This makes so much sense. Canada about 7 years ago had a huge influx of chinese immigrants. I literally changed my bus route to school because these rich chinese kids would all hop on the bus at 7 in the morning and be the loudest people in the history of the world. We even went to the same school so I i knew exactly who they were.

It's the same here in Germany. You usually are quite quiet in public spaces, but it's very interesting to see that here especially Turkish, Arabic and African people are often super loud in public. They yell om their phone and yell at each other when talking or watch videos on their phones with full volume or do video calls without headphones, it's wild.

It's silent in Malaysia on public transports and I am so grateful, other than that once in a while, someone would put their phone on 100% volume. I can't phantom why they don't use headphones

lol the candy crush bit is so minuscule compared to the boomers that play YouTube and Tik tok videos at FULL VOLUME when waiting at the doctors office. Gotta love Americans

A silent society can have it's advantages for certain types of people but even I as a quiet introvert find the silence in certain german public places just a little bit too depressing and the noisy places sometimes too aggressive. When I was in China I actually learned to love the noise because it's very different from the noise I know from the west. In China it's a vibrant, lively, and happy atmosphere without aggression and the traffic in big cities is surprisingly quiet. I really miss that. Don't like the silence, depressed faces, and stares here in Germany anymore. No idea how it's in Japan. Many germans say japanese culture is similar to german though.

In the UK people generally are in the middle. We have a mix of cultures which doesn’t help and it clashes a lot. Some places in Europe are very quiet like Norway - no one speaks in public places or loudly or places music out loud etc. same with Holland and Czech Republic. But go to Spain or Italy and everyone is yelling lol. Maybe it’s because we are cold we are too tired to yell. 😂

Just compare Hong Kong & mainland China, they even closer and the difference is no lesser at all...

In Germany, it used to be super quiet too. I’m grateful for pretty much everything other cultures have brought to this country, but my god, the noise on trains is the one exception 😅

In America it is common for everyone’s kids to be on a tablet or smartphone. On top of that they typically are playing games or shows on max volume. This is everywhere too. Coffee shops, restaurants, the movies, and the middle of a church service. I hear back in the day Americans use to have more respect for each other in common spaces but I don’t see that at all these days.

In high school, when my friend came back from visiting Korea, he said everyone was smoking on the bus. He called it "the arm pit of the world" 💀

I didn't experience that in Shanghai or Korea. Now America, thats a whole different game, especially in NYC

I feel the stereotype of Australians is that they're loud but I find we're pretty non-confrontational. people don't engage in random conversations in lifts

if I am on the train I will just decline the call and write a message that I will call back in a few minutes. Don't really like calling/talking in public spaces :/

China sounds LAID BACK! cool about that

Yeah, in australia its kinda quiet, but if there are 2+ people (or groups of kids) having a conversation on public transport, youre probably gonna hear it pretty loudly (though a lot of the quiet/ silent people would be judging the noise lol)

pretty much everywhere i've gone in the US everywhere is loud as hell except elevators
elevators are the loudest awkward silence EVER like i've been alone with some friends in elevators and we don't have a problem continuing our loud conversation but as soon as it stops on a floor to let someone on we go silent
like before the doors fully open it's dead silent all you can year is the elevator itself

It depends on space. If on the train. Its kinda loud but everything is kinda laud so headphones. Coffee shops are usually quieter. But restaurants will depend on the kind of restaurant.
