to say nietzsche didn’t understand christianity is a terrible terrible misunderstanding of his life and his work. He was literally a theologist from the time that he began school all the way to university, he’s read the bible in it’s native languages.

Nietzsche was very appreciative of Jesus, he named him a "free spirit"

Kierkegaards Knigt of faith is the Ubermensch. Abraham overcome good and evil and tried to sacrife Isaac based on faith.

It is a slave/herd morality if one externalizes (misunderstands) God. If one believes that there is an external god ruling them, then one is a slave to it.

When one realizes that Christ (the power and wisdom of God) is within, and one then goes on to actualize these qualities, then it is transcendent.

Nietzsche praised Christ and accused his followers of perverting his teaching (via ressentiment). He points to Paul as the primary perpetrator.

I’m an atheist but even then, I’m very critical of Nietzsche’s sentiments as I just don’t find them very helpful or logically applicable.

He can criticize Jesus all he wants but if he himself says that he was the only Christian, I can’t help but see that as a compliment even when he meant it as an insult. If Jesus is the only Christian, then that implies that he actually lived by his own moral teachings and set the standard of how to live.

What can Nietzsche’s ubermensche idea actually do for me if he never substantiated his claims on the concept while openly admitting in his work that its fictional? Does he really expect people to sacrifice one moral system over an idea that has a no system or guarantee of working?

Okay. But what does Jesus Christ have anything to do with what Nietzsche saw of his contemporary Christians, and Christians in history for that matter?

“Have I been understood? – Dionysus against the crucified…” Nietzsche’s final sentence in Ecce Homo. His resolution of the nihilism that followed his faith crisis took him down a dark path.
