5 Reasons I like the Canon EOS R5 more than the EOS R

I rented the Canon EOS R5 and have used it for about 10 weeks. Ive shot a couple of mini docs at work, some YouTube and of course taken a lot of photos. I was mainly interested in it as a cinema camera for personal. But here are 5 reasons why the R5, IMO, is the best hybrid video/still camera Ive tested so far.

I find it funny when people argue about specs in too much detail. I still use the 12mp Leica x1 I bought after your review.

The more I shoot other brands the more I love canon, right now I’m putting EF lenses onto any and everything from Sony to the Eos film cameras to possibly Fuji GFX in the near future. I find them to be a sweet spot between character and sharpness. I’m not ready to switch systems yet but would love to try more RF stuff, too expensive tho. Would love to see you adapt some EF lenses on the GFX 50R!

Nice, I'm glad they kept the shutter button and grip the same. Yours and Martin's are the only camera channels I watch now. Crazily both Swedish and both into watches! Ha

It's a little overkill perhaps, but the new atomos ninja V + will actually allow you to do 8k prores raw continuously from the r5! I'm really going blackmagic works to get braw as well so that the file sizes would be more manageable because I LOVE grading the 8k raw, the 10 bit is great but something about that 12 bit raw is just mind blowing for color grading to me!

Kolari Vision is starting to produce and ship more EF-RF drop-in filters, and hopefully Breakthrough Photography finally breaks through (ha) and starts to ship the ones they promised as well. Really looking forward to getting more use out of the filter adapter on EF lenses.

Very nice video. In practice do you find the R5 has better video dynamic range then the R?

I've never bought into the canon-system due having really bad dynamic range. However a friend sent me a couple of files taken with his r6, which specs wise has lower DR than the r5 and holy hell those files can be abused like there is no tomorrow. It made the raw files from my x-t3 look like jpegs in comparison.

The new high-resolution sensors in the cameras that have come out in the past year seem to have considerably better low light capabilities. I'm still in shock at what I'm getting at 50 compared to my low res cameras. And the Canon dynamic range improvements are amazing.

Hey Mattias, great video as always and I am a long time fans of you but is the first time to post comments here. I totally agreed gear is not a matter but recently i am itching to try Canon R5 but need to sell my gears to fund the camera. My main system is Pentax but not going to sell it. I am thinking to sell my Leica M10 to fund the Canon R5. May I please have your thought of this decision and is it worth to sell a rangefinder for a Canon system
