Are There Too Many Music Streaming Services? | Mashable Explains

Spotify, Tidal, Apple Music, Pandora - the choices for listening to music nowadays seems to be never-ending. While healthy market competition is always a good thing for consumers, has the endless amounts of music platforms actually been detrimental for confused music lovers? And with more ways to obtain music illegally, will we revert back to the days of Napster when it was easier to pirate music than to actually pay for it?

I do listen to music on spotify mostly but go and buy the CDs of Bands I really like and want to support. Oh and on the Kanye/Taylor issue. Yea, I don't really give a damn about either of em and wouldn't even listen to them if it was free.

Tidal is finally getting the attention it needed.

I only use one. Spotify. If they don't release it on there I don't listen to it at this point. That includes Taylor, Adele and Rihanna at first. Their loss. It's too much work to find songs on multiple apps. I totally agree.

I can't stand the fragmentation that comes along with exclusives, but I understand why it's happening. This is how artists push back against streaming, as they make significantly less money. I imagine we'll see another shift in the industry in the next few years, but I have no idea what that will look like.

Video streaming is going the same way only every streaming service is gonna have their own exclusives forcing consumers in to the high seas.

No, there is no such thing as too many streaming services. There will always be overlap of users who pay for more than one service, either directly (Spotify) or indirectly (Google Play Music via YouTube Red). Intentionally or not, I pay for 6 different music streaming services and I use 4 of that 6 regularly. While less frequent, I still use the other two occasionally and having an open minded taste I end up listening to a variety of artists across all platforms. Even if someone only uses 2 music streaming services because they happen to share accounts with friends they'll still be giving services double the attention and thus double the revenue to support the artists listened to.

For example I want to stream my music but I want my playlist to be available on my streaming page for offline playback as a back up in case there's an internet connection problem, how do you go about this problem?

Video should be called the value of music

I'm so tired of the argument that streaming services "devalues music." I call bullshit. How about consumers tired of spending $20 for a CD and only like one song! Or spending money for CDs so bad you can't even give them away. The reality is, people can't afford music anymore, and is one of the key reasons I believe people bootleg them in the first place. I understand artists need to make money; but I have the right as a fan to be able to afford your music too. So, it's a double edge sward.

Same issue with TV,
want to watch the walking dead? Gotta go to hulu for that.
want to watch nfl? Gotta go and get a Comcast account
So on and so forth, next thing you know you got 20 different accounts all for different shows. Its ridiculous,
So go piracy, fix your shit or im not buying
