I wouldn't use a circular saw for that but if he's used a reciprocating saw that'd be pretty smart

I usually measure and make it somewhat the height I want before putting in the post but that might be a steel pipe type thing I don’t like correcting

I never cut tops. Always cut at the bottom and set to height. I believe the cut rots quicker.

Circ saw or chain saw. Recip is WAY to jerky especially when the mud is still green.

Idk lots of contingencies there but typically I set posts and measure off top rails and cut before any pickets that way it all looks uniformed regardless of contours of the land.

I can cut that post in two licks and keep the scrap on the blade til I flick it where I want it
