There are so many competitions, so many matches, so many minutes that football players have to play: Nations League, Euro, Copa America, Champions League, Championships, National Cups, FIFA Club World Cup starting in surprise that the injury rate has skyrocked.

Its not the best idea... especially since it stacks more games into a clubs calender, making them less threatening in their league etc. without squad depth.

I love new format and tbh previous one was dead and predictable only bad thing is that there’s too much pressure on players, they should reduce the number of games team plays in league phase to 6, just like the amount of games they’d play in the group stage

I’m not totally against it but the lack of a return fixture is crazy, it completely swings games away from certain teams who are much better at home than away. I’m not against the full elimination though, it does get a bit frustrating when CL teams are in the Europa and easily beating their opponents who are just levels below them.

It’s not just the fact that it’s a league format where they’re playing against 8 different teams (2 teams from each pot 4 at home and away each where the teams ranked 1st-8th secure automatic qualification to the knockout stages and 9th-24th have to play a 2legged playoff tie to get to the RD of 16, in the early stages of the competition, a good sign for football fans is the amount of high profile games rather than waiting until the knockout stages: Real Madrid vs Liverpool, Bayern Munich vs Barcelona, Liverpool vs AC Milan, Arsenal vs PSG, Manchester City vs Inter Milan, a rematch of both champions league finals (Manchester City vs Inter Milan, Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund).

Since teams have to be ranked in a certain position to get to the knockout stages or the playoffs, this means that teams can rotate their squads even more if they have some high profile games to play in the league and this will also reduce the risk of injury and burnout since we talk about the players getting injured at a much more frequent rate due to the amount of games they play, in order to reduce that, I think teams need to be rotating a little more. Maybe for football, it could be a good thing in the long term.

It's interesting seeing how many people were against this before it started, but now opinions are mostly positive, everyone always falls in love with swiss format
