Did John Cena bury The Nexus? Let us know in the comments below!

Edge pretty much told us that Cena did a "That doesn't work for me, brother." on Nexus.

Fun fact, after beating the Nexus, Cena lost 6 Summerslam matches in a row, most of them clean. If he lost in 2017, he would have lost one time for every member of the Nexus he put down that night.

"As soon as we lose to Cena, we are just like everyone else." .... Dean Ambrose/Jon Moxley on the Shield vs Cena

I remember watching that match, and all I could think was "Super Cena did it again".

I'm a Cena fanboy but he didn't just bury the Nexus. He basically put them in an underground tomb and poured concrete all over it.

Edge highlighted an important point here: there is stuff that should be protected against kickouts so that when it happens and wrestlers kick out even after, such as a sledgehammer hit, or ddt on concrete, even finishers, it looks awesome. The problem with WWE is that this stuff happens too often nowadays, often on a weekly basis: people kicking out of finishers, steel chair shots etc. There is no "OMG WOW" factor anymore. Look at recent Lesnar/Goldberg/Reigns matches. If all you have in the match is a sequence of finishing moves, who is gonna care when the 19th spear is hit when people have kicked out of the previous 18?

The thing about being DDT'ed on exposed concrete floor and walking it off is wild.
If you have been watching prowresting for a while you know that when Jake the Snake DDT'ed Ricky Steamboat on concrete he was injured for weeks. He had to learn how to walk again.
So for Cena to walk it off and win a match, is stupid. That's something you do when you want to shelve someone. You don't use it as a spot in a match.

So crazy edge was in the crowd while Bret heart was being interviewed, now he’s the legend getting the interview

If Cena had done the job to Nexus, you could've done more business with them, and you could've ran with Cena chasing to get his win back for a year. This whole thing was incredibly shortsighted.

Dude, THIS. This makes me feel good to hear someone from the actual wrestling world discuss this. That whole Cena VS the Nexus stuff was THEE moment within my adulthood where I generally lost interest in pro wrestling as a form of entertainment that I watch weekly. It's 2023 now and I dont know a thing about who's who. Luckily there is a community of fans of that kind in the wrestling world where we sit and talk about those eras and before and learn all the funny stories and crazy stuff behind the scenes. So in THAT sense, I am still a fan.

I remember when Nexus first attacked. I was stranded in Florida and my friends called me all excited to tell me some NWO like stuff went down 😂 I was mad for missing it, but I caught up maybe the end of that week. I was so excited to see them pushing newer guys but also, and this is VERY important, something OTHER than Cena. As a younger adult, I had been watching pretty much since like 89, or 1990. But to see whatever the next generation's "Hulk Hogan" is... and then seeking something more out of good guys and bad guys, made you realize how formulaic it all is. Same thing w hulk, and I was just another one of the millions of kids who just followed. So I get it- but John Cena just kept winning and winning and the more he won, the less they made ANYTHING on a wrestling show about anyone but John Cena LMAO

But to see him bury an idea that was pregnant with possibilities- It was just numbing. I dont even think I watched for a few weeks after that to see what the epilogue of the feud was. It was just THEE defining incident that made me fall off wrestling. Now I just like watching old Dean Malenko matches on YouTube lol.

Anybody else remember when Cena used his rematch clause for the wwe title to beat Rey mysterio on the same night that Rey beat the miz? And he was a good guy. As a kid I only liked cena for his first year as the wwe champion and then got bored of seeing him by the time I turned twelve. Seeing the same people in the main event just makes the show feel like nothing ever changes.

Nexus walked so the Shield could run....unfortunate but that's kinda what happened.

I think the big problem with this was the mind set of WWE which is a babyface territory, that old line of Hogan must pose, and it reared its head. I think because Vince and the creative team were like well they'll get their heat back but failing to release this is that original NWO heat that you can't manufacture these heels are crazy over because they've destroyed everyone. The only silver lining is after this they handled The Shield far better and didn't let them lose that heat.

Agree with Edge here, he's always done the right thing for business, which is why it doesn't make sense that he beat Balor at WrestleMania this year, especially if he was retiring very soon.

Cena was like Hall and Nash, happy to lose when it doesnt really matter. Then they can say, "see i put people over". Smart. Shitty but smart.

The question really is who hasn’t he buried the guys a certified mortician

That’s the problem with wrestling in past 2 decades. It’s hard to tell the right story when guys don’t want to put people over
