I'm using earbuds and just listening to clips when I feel like I'm dozing off and it's working just fine. I've also used other binaural beats through speakers and they worked fine. It should work if your speakers can pick them up.

As long as you have a stereo headphones/earpiece, it would work.
You don't have to listen everything for the effect.
For your mind to set to this frequency, it takes about 6~15 minutes.
It's recommended by some to listen for 30 minutes only

Audacity is freeware - I think the most popular in its genre. No adware. Just record a few second of the alleged binaural and look at the frequency. Doesn't work if the beats are hidden under music, but the same software will let you layer your favorite music over the beats.

Are these still as effective if you play them softly with other music? I just find that I start to feel really panicky if I listen to the binaural beats (any of them) just by themselves, and when I play gentle music over the top I feel a lot better. Cheers!
