For me I would say they're both good and a must have when going in to photography

I love my wide primes (14, 24, 35) as I like to shoot nightscapes, but I also have a 16-35 because when I’m at the coast or around water generally I hate swapping out lenses. Also if hiking - I take just the zoom.

None of these lenses are 'heavy' until you start getting into the large telephoto zooms. I used to lug a 1d series with a 120-300 f2.8 on it. That was getting to be heavy.

A constant aperture zoom does the job for me :). And a macro prime, which can also be very flexible.

Prime for shooting still subjects and when you shoot for fun. Zoom lens for shooting events and for work

Primes are better for some shots, zooms are usually good for everything depending on what you have. A 70-200 2.8 will let you do almost everything you want.

As someone who runs and guns, a zoom lens is the best option for me. I do like shooting in f1.8 though.

i suggest people to start off with zoom lens. take 20/30-150/200 depend on your budget. better if good second hand because its cheaper rather than new prime lens. used it until you reached the peak of needed extra aperture. because mostly i use around 2.8-4. the zoom can make more characters about your picture. prime lens for me need more idea to shoot and you can be stuck because distance but its great experience. and to add on. zoom lens weight just few coins heavier until you reached more than 250mm

this to me is still the most frustrating part of photography, all sides have benefits and you can't carry them both all the time! 😅

Can you make a video (8-15 min maybe) about verious kinds of camera's which are value for money, like according to occasion/event which camera's are better for what?

As of me i personally don't have a great knowledge about camera's like it's sensors, lenses, quality & all... I would like to watch those videos and would help me and like us to have a better understanding about camera & it's accessories.

Yea times have changed, primes individually maybe cheaper but u got to need 2 -3 primes at minimum and that almost the same price as a good standard f2.8 zoom . Prime lens are best niche photography such as astro or street or professional portraiture . But for 80% pro and casual use Zooms just gets the work done ! A wide zoom + standard zoom f2.8 kit is a 80% event photography and videography kit, drop a tele zoom and that's 100% !

I'm definitely a prime snob, but not any more. I actually found that many of the zooms are very very good and you can get close to similar results now with primes as you can with zoom lenses depending on how you shoot depending on how you compose and so forth

I like my Sony GM primes, also have a Leica 35mm f/2 summicron. My zooms are third party lenses.

One lens rulez them all: Sigma 56 f1.4 on 32mp Canon m6ii. Pixel density equivalent to 83 mp full frame camera. Pics can be cropped up to 10 percent. Full body model shot can be cropped to amazing portrait. This made Canon to stop producing it as it was better than FF bodies cost 5 grand.

For me a zoom lens with a fixed wide aperture is better.

Absolutely primes for me. Shooting the "stars" with f2.0 instead of f5.6 is just the most logical step with my two lenses

I'll get myself a zoom when they make a very portable zoom lens with f1.4 or lower lmao... I need a wide aperture to compensate in low light... I shoot too much low light for an f2.8... it's just a preference tho, I love zooms nevertheless

Yeah, I love that tiny and cheap 85mm f1.2! 😆
