I also like how repeatable prime lenses are. No guessing

Portraits, low light, people in general: Prime
Wildlife, landscape, nature in general: Zoom
Product photography: Probably Macro.

You should buy both of them
50mm 1. 8
70-200 2.8
And 35mm 1.8

Prime Lenses should be smaller and lighter.
Canon L lens team : We don't do that here.💀

If you're starting fresh I really recommend also to invest the extra 100 bucks for a fully manual prime 50-55mm with a wide variable aperture like f/1.2-1.4 to fully learn how the triangle of aperture, exposure and ISO work and learn to manually focus without relying on the AF of the camera. It will force you to really work with your camera and is also a really rewarding work to result ratio when you hit the shot. It will not only let you appreciate your auto features of the camera but gives you full quicker creative freedom also

And if you want to get into macro there is also a cheaper way to get to macro. Get a filter to mount adapter and reverse the lens on your camera. 50mm gives you a 1:1 subject magnification and 24/35mm will already give you a 2:1 magnification and get you really close to your subject without paying hundreds or thousand of dollars
