Yakutsk (Якутск) is the capital city of the Sakha Republic, Russia, located about 450 km (280 mi) south of the Arctic Circle. It is the coldest city on the Earth and it is also the largest city located in continuous permafrost; the only other large city is Norilsk, also in Siberia.

Let's meet an ethnic minority of Russia - the Yakuts who live in the coldest inhabited place of the Earth. We will get to know their culture, get to know the locals and hear their life stories and concerns about Global warming. Global warming isn't felt much for us, but it is already very palpable and visible in the Russian Arctic.

I m French but I lived in Yakutsk for 3 years. I was teaching French. I really love this place. Everybody is speaking about the cold. And it is very cold ! But you have to see the beauty of Yakutia ! The poetry of the landscape... the atmosphere... I will keep this Republic in my heart forever.

I saw a video of a Russian woman in Siberia talking about some of this stuff earlier, the ignorance from the comments with everyone telling her to leave Ukraine and saying they'd never want to go there because people were deported there and even calling it stolen land. As if she had anything to do with that and just discounting Siberians history and culture

I lived in Novosibirsk for 3 years and had never felt any sub zero temperature before. I thought -20 C was cold then I felt -40 C. I grew to love the climate though.

Once in Point Lay Alaska I experienced -65F with a -83F windchill. We did not leave the house because any skin exposed would burn. The furnace struggled to keep the house above 54F

I love Eli's videos, they make me want to visit Russia; even though I'm a cold hating Canadian. 😄
