What worked for me was changing all my flask allocations to crimson rather than half crimson and half cerulean. Dude is too good at dodging magic so I scrapped that strategy. Did what you said and wouldn't you know, it worked!

Big tip. If he falls off his horse you can do plunging attack riposte before he gets up for massive damage

Rolling right worked well for me on the one in Weeping Peninsula too. Took a long time though, as level 37 equipped well, and built pretty well, for the fight. Most of the "enjoyment" of this game is the mental equivalent of purposely making yourself constipated because when you finally poo, normal feels better than usual.

I've dismounted these guys dozens of times, but have never been able to pull off the big dismount crit. So frustrating!

I'm having trouble nailing down the timing of the combos, and it wouldn't be a big deal if there wasn't a side mission dedicated to the fighting pits where it forces you to use them lol.
