You might want to add that you can’t audio message a person that doesn’t have an iPhone. I just learned that the hard way. I followed all of your suggestions, other than resetting and wondered if that could be the issue and it was!

Please show me how to get the role of those icons on the screen to begin with. I don’t have any of those icons on my message screen. How do I get that to begin with?

Thanks so much! I fixed the issue by turning on Accessibility and then immediately turning it off again. So grateful for your expertise and help!

Too bad there isn’t a way to fix iOS’ literal nightmare programming for audio messages in general. I can’t believe they’ve updated so many times & u still can’t even listen to a vm without it timing out when your phone Lock Screen comes on—more or less saving your damn spot. Effectively makes AMs almost unusable if over 1-2min… no way to scrub thru them & maintain spot, no way to change speed. The only solution is genuinely to use whatts app & even the most enthusiastic audio messengers just won’t use it after a while. You would think this would be a PRIORITY in increasingly remote world w long distance communication dynamics even more important than FT/zoom but apparently that’s only a priority for neurodivergent ppl..???? Just 🤦🏻

I didn’t realize there was a drop down menu thing. I saw the little button right below and pressed on that instead of the one to the right of the text message that worked fine. I didn’t realize that I was usually send people gifts in emojis on that one side. Like the red tennis racket icon.

Simple solution: press on the + (plus) button to the left of the text input box to open the various mini apps then tap on Audio
